CAD Mr. Alexander happily gets the correct response from a student. CBJ Mrs. Olson shows her grand disposition and how happy she is to return after a long illness. KCJ Mrs. Doris Giles. Mrs. Giles, head of the English department, handles all of the speech contests and teaches public speak- ing, basic speech, mass media electronic, and freshman English. Advanced composition, introduction to novels, short story, and mass media are course titles. These English course titles represent a few of the single semester courses available to students this year. The new elective program offering a wide range of opportunities for language study attempts to meet the needs of all students. KDJ Mrs. James is getting some good answers from her students on their papers. CEJ Mr. John Alexander. Mr. Alexander teaches mass media print, creative writing, building a vocabulary, busi- ness English, and freshman English. He also coaches our varsity football team. CFD Mrs. Kistler is pleased to show a publicity poster well-done. CGD Mrs. Ruth Olson. Mrs. Olson teaches intermediate composition, humanities, mass media print, great books, and freshman English. CHD Mrs. Nancy McReynolds, Mrs. Mc Reynolds teaches career English, elements of communication, and film study. Mrs. McReynolds also sponsors the editorial staff of the yearbook and any photography contests. She took her maternity leave December 1, 1972 and Mrs. Doris Woods took her classes. Mrs. Woods teaches mass media, electronics, elements of communication, freshman English and black literature. CD Mr. Moore listens as a student reads aloud in class. QJ3 Mrs. Giles pauses in the hall to speak to the editorial staff members. CKJ Mrs. Betty Jo Lauderdale. Mrs. Lauderdale teaches freshman English and intermediate composition. CLD Mrs. Mary Cussins. Mrs. Cussins teaches individualized reading, advanced composition, in- troduction to poetry, and freshman English. She also sponsors the National Honor Society. CM7 Mrs. McReynolds explains the concept of depth of field to her film study class. QNJ Mrs. Shirley Kistler. Mrs. Kistler teaches basic speech, beginning and advanced play production, dramatic litera- ture, and freshman English. Mrs. Kistler sponsors the Thespian Society, all the play productions and handles any other general entertainment giv- en at the school by students or faculty. COD Mrs. Lauderdale patiently awaits for a response from one of her students. CPD Mrs. Marilyn James. Mrs James teaches journalism, semantics, modern logic seminar, and freshman English. She also is in charge of the Panther Press Cschool newspa- perb. CQ5 Mrs. Cussins stands to survey the progress of her students as they read. CRP Mr. Eugene Moore. Home Economics CAD Mrs Padgett watches as her students prepare a meal. CBD Mrs. Helen Padgett. Mrs Padgett head of the home economics department, teaches adult living, cloth- A ing foods child development and home furnishing. The home economics depart- ment offers opportunities to students to relate their learning to home and family life as well as to prospective work experiences recognizing the facts that occur in a con- sumer oriented society KCD Mrs Ruth Hicks. Mrs. Hicks teaches clothing, food and , consumer education CDD Mrs Hicks helps a student with her garment she is sewing. CED Miss McMakin smiles with approval at the progress of her students. QFD Miss Locke gives directions concerning the sketch book. CGD Miss Susan Mc- Makin, Miss McMakin is in charge of the art department and art contests. She teaches art activities, applied design, drawing and painting, and commercial art. The art department is concerned with the growth of all students through experiences that enable them to develop their creative, intellectual, emotion- al, social, and manualcapacities. At no other period in history has it been so necessary for man to realize his world more keenly and to place in its true perspective, the importance of the basic need for expression through self- direction, creative ability, critical thinking, and emotional stability. If our so- ciety is to reach a higher level of culture, everyone must be educated to ap- preciate art. The conditions conducive to the creation and enjoyment of great art are vital to the enrichment of daily living for all mankind. CHD Miss Diana Locke. Miss Locke teaches art activities. 58
