Mrs. Pauline Norton Yearbook Advisor 1957-1973 An Appreciation The 73 yearbook staff wishes to extend a special thanks to our advisor, Mrs. Pauline Norton. For thirty years Mrs. Norton has taught English and Spelling, to the betterment of thousands of students. Beyond her teaching duties, she has been involved in numerous other activities; she is the seventh grade advisor, and the future teachers' advisor. But the most challenging and exacting of all her activities is the yearbook. Year after year, she has turned out good yearbooks. Those of us who understand the tremendous amount of time and labor needed to produce a good yearbook fully appreciate this great accomplishment. A person who year after year accepts this great responsibility naturally possesses many admirable qualities. She is patient, understanding, and willing to listen to any sound argument. Because Mrs. Norton will be retiring soon, we wash to extend our appreciation for all that Mrs. Norton has meant to this school, to its yearbooks, and especially to the 73 Lance. seven

It seems facetious to remark that this yearbook is unlike any other since that fact confronts you as soon as you open it. In the beginning of the year we realized that yearbooks tend to follow a certain pattern year after year. Webegan by throwing out this pattern and building a new design from its remnants; when we thought changes would improve the yearbook, we weren't afraid to make them. This is why we have introduced so many changes, the foremost of which is the extreme verticalness of our book with the binding at the top. As far as we know, we are the first high school east of the Rockies to attempt this. Undoubtedly some people will object to it because it’s too hard to turn the pages . We hope that our yearbook is good enough that you won't want to turn the pages that fast. Most people don't realize the great effort that goes into the making of a yearbook. In addition to all the people you see in the picture above, I would like to thank our photographers Brian Lindquist and Gary Holt, who, despite their remarkable talent for misplacing things, are really quite good. Linda Church and Cindy Snyder, who were responsible for raising funds to finance this yearbook through candy sales,advertisements, and patronships, should be congratulated for a job well done.
