The invasion of the alligator, the rebirth of the button-collared oxford, and the return of the classic khaki. “Preppy” was short for preparatory. That tells a storv in itself. The greatest influence on clothes today was set by the standards of the ivy league schools in eastern USA . This collegiate style of dressing was very basic. However, there was still room for freedom of expression. Those who indulged in “punk” attire, although pushing fashion to the j extreme, basically owned the same styles 1 of clothing as the “full-fledged preppy.” Today's clothes left something to be desired: specifically, variety.
