Fall activities included a hayride and homecoming. During the winter tobogganing, sleighing, and roller skat- ing parties were planned, as well as a ski trip. As the year came to an end many seniors traveled to Florida and Colorado during Easter vacation. Dur- ing the last week of school the senior trip to Cedar Point, a canoe trip on Senior Skip Day, and the senior party at the Coachlight Inn all pointed to graduation on June 4, 1978. During the past four years the class has had many original ideas. They were the first and only class to have Basic School and the first class to have They traveled to Cedar Point their sophomore year, the first class to do so. Besides trips to Cedar Point, they planned picnics at Imm- erman Park each spring. Among many other firsts, the Class of ‘78 initiated Junior-Senior Prom, which was a great help to the sophomores and juniors, “Exposure”. and they sponsored a full page ad in the yearbook. Competition 88 Eisenhower's Wrestling Team, under the direction of new head coach Glen Gagnon, compiled a winning dual meet record of six wins and four losses during this past season. The highlight of the dual meet competition was an Eisenhower victory over a fine Midland High team, 32 to 17, and a victory over WPC champs, Bridgeport, by a score of 30 to 23. They also placed in the 1978 Saginaw County Invitational. In the White Pine Conference, Eisen- hower compiled a record of three wins and one loss and placed third in the conference meet held at Buena Vista High School. Senior co-cap- tain Steve Gorte successfully defended his title in the 155 pound division and became only one of four wrestlers in the history of the conference to successfully defend his title for three successive years. Eisenhower again scored over one hundred points in the conference meet with junior Neal Brady at 138 pounds, senior Mike Brown at 145 pounds, and senior co-captain heavy weight Gary Leeson, all placing second. Senior Wrestlers: Top: Mike Burns, Midd and Steve Gorte. 2 le: Paul Gruenberg, rary LaBeile, Bottom: Mike Brown, and Captains Gary Leeson, Several of the wrestlers compiled fine individual records for themselves with Steve Gorte again being the varsity point leader with a combined record of nineteen wins five losses and one draw. Gary Leeson lead the team in most pins for the season with twelve and scored seventeen victories against nine defeats. In addition, senior Mike Brown compiled a record of sixteen wins and ten losses and qualified for state regional competition. Sophomore Pat Ramirez, who was last season’s most improved wrestler, again had a fine season with thirteen wins, seven losses and two draws and also qualified for state regional competition. Other wrestlers having fine season for Eisen- hower this year were juniors Dave Schneider with a record of ten wins and seven losses, Dan Kocks with a rec- ord of ten wins and nine losses. Ån eighth girl was added to the Varsity squad and Beth Baldwin, a former Eisenhower cheerleader, took over the job of coaching the girls. These changes proved to be very beneficial to the cheerleaders. Last summer the Varsity and J.V. squads traveled to Clinton, S. Carolina to attend cheerleading camp. The Var- sity squad was named grand champions for the second consecutive summer. Receiving the runner-up award was the J.V. squad for the first time at Eisen- hower. They also were given the honor of the congeniality award and the spirit award for the first night of competi- tion. Cheerleading has grown in many ways at Eisenhower and it will con- tinue to grown and improve. All the way from keeping the school spirit together, to competing at camp and state competition, the cheerleaders will always be there practicing those extra hours, building that higher mount, and giving the teams that extra drive to score the winnning point. What some people considered to be the most hilarious comedy ever to ap- pear on our stage was presented by the Eisenhower Drama Club this past fall, under the direction of Miss Ruth Anne Sowle and student stage management of Janet Morse and Lynn Schrock. “If A Man Answers,” by Wilfred Wholffe, was a unique story about a girl (Kristy Cardinal) who marries a photographer (Dan Bourcier) in New York. When her mother first tells her the secret of a successful marriage is using a dog training manual on your husband, she is shocked. After several weeks of good results, she is grateful. Gretchen Hollerback flirts with Dave Lamb. E — — Presenting a serious drama was something the Eisenhower Drama Club has been known for, and this year was no different. “I Never Saw Another Butterfly,” under the direct- ion of Miss Ruth Anne Sowle and stu- dent stage management of Kelly Sod- erberg, was an excellent example of student involvement. On January 31, the cast and crew traveled to Lapeer for the M.LF.A. district competition and received a sec- ond place trophy and an invitation to the regional competition in Essex- ville, and a superior acting award for lead, Kristy Cardinal. While at the reg- ional competition, the play was awarded fourth place and an alternate position for the state comeptition along with two superior acting awards for both Kristy Cardinal and Pamm Sweet. Thanks to the millage renewal last fall, we were fortunate enough to have five women who assisted the administrators in keeping the school running smoothly. They contributed greatly to the effi- ciency of the school. Mrs. Joan Fleener, had the respon- sibility of running the main office, school scheduling, and she served as Mr. Doane’s secretary. Handling the money and keeping the finances straight was a big respon- sibility for Mrs. Ellie Wayman. Mrs. Pauline Bortle was Eisenhower’s counseling secretary. She took care of college information and transfering college transcripts. Handling the records and absences in the attendance office was the job of Mrs. Marge Rupp. Mrs. Joyce Davidson worked closely with Miss Ludgin in the library.
