The J.V. Basketball Team show- ed much progress by winning thir- teen contests and dropping only six. Two 5 game win streaks at- tributed to the Commanders fine season. Diane Ponichtera and Renae Parker were the leading scorers, canning 111 and 76 points. Diane Forrester, Jenny Mossner, and Shelly Stelter were close behind by dumping in 71, 65, and 48 points це. reshman guard Diane Forrester, and sophomore center, Shelly Stelter were moved up to the Varsity Team for tournaments. Second year Coach Ms. Ann Laundra was the key to the fine season. Ike’s J.V.’s also had the privilege of dumping Douglas MacArthur 23-19. Coach Ann Laundra gives half-time instructions. J.V. The Eisenhower Girls’ Basket- ball Team, under the leadership of first year Coach Bob Ryan, soared to its best season ever, finishing with a fine 18-4 win-loss record. Seniors Claudette Charney, Susan Laundra and Cindy Ponichtera led the mighty Com- manders in both points scored and rebounds. The female Commanders, play- ing a tough “тап to man” or “рег- son to person” defense, finished as Co-Champions of the White Pine Conference with a 9-1 record in conference play. Their most satisfying victory was a 46-33 trouncing of the MacArthur Generals on the Generals’ home court. Saginaw High’s Trojans provided the toughest competition in the District A Tournament staged here at IKE. The “Commanderettes” fought bravely before going down to defeat 52-40 in the final game.
