Spikin Wifh Qpirif Even though the girls' varsity volleyball team only won three games of the season, the girls' spirit still held up. Throughout the season their enthusiasm grew. The team played much better than their record showed. The volleyball season starts before school does. The girls have to try out to make the team. They were judged on their ability to spike, bump, serve, and have a good winning attitude. Out of about twenty girls trying out, only thirteen made the team. When asked what kind of a season the girls had, Mrs. Durst was quoted in saying, Over all the season was a great improvement on teamwork and offense. We concentrated on our weak points at the beginning so we could run a more defined offense. Team co-captains Tricia Tansey and Sherri Winn both agreed that this year's team seemed to have more competitiveness than teams of the past. All the girls really pulled together for each other to provide a sense of togetherness on the team. Sherri Winn shows how to bump Karen Yeager gets ready for a serve.
