Annie Hall became the best picture while Fleet- wood Mac stayed number one on the album charts. Punk Rock went in and out leaving Led Zepplin, Aer- osmith and Van Halen at the top. Fans were saddened with the deaths ot members ofthe number one group, Lynard Skynard. It was the year Notre Dame beat the cotton out of Texas and Dallas won the Super Bowl. Heisman Tro- phy winner Earl Campbell signed with the Houston Oilers for 1.2 million. It was a year of change and confrontation that leaves the future a challenge. New York blacked out and Reg- gie Jackson hit three World Series homeruns. First Brother Billy christened a new beer and Queen Elizabeth celebrated her silver Jubilee. Disco Fever '78 Disco Fever set the stage for the 1978 Variety Show. With the popularity of Saturday Night Fever the theme seemed appropriate. Student Council officers intro- duced country and rock bands, dancers, and outstand- ing singers periorming everything from soul to easy listening. Even senior Greg Winn showed us his real self by pouring his heart out in a song. Sharla Branch, secretary of the Student Council said, The show was a lot of fun and showed talent never before displayed at Ike. The theme and the back- drop added to the whole performance. . . and the next act is . . announced sophomore Terry Williams. Junior Mark Smith and Senior Kelly Beck played some easy listening music to mellow out the crowd.
