Many different activities were held during Black History Week. All during the week members of Essence went to classrooms and told short biogra- phies of accomplished black persons. Wednesday was soul food day vvith the serving of fried chicken and greens. A lot of time and effort vvent into the production of The Little Ham, vvhich was per- formed on February 13. A Drama Competition vvas held at Ramona high school in which EHS drama students competed. There vvere many different categories vvhich the students began preparing for 5-6 weeks ahead of time. Scott Kilmah placed third in individual serious, while Phyl- lis Palmer and Joyce Pey- nolds took second in group serious. Sue Veyveris, Janice lvans, Pon Vvhittiker and Wess Snovv placed third in group humorous. First place vvas taken by Nancy Meek and Jay Cox. Confetti filled the air on Feb- ruary 28, the date of the annual Mardi Gras. Booths were set up by AFS and the different language depart- ments, selling a variety of foods. Many enjoyed dancing to the music of Straight-Up. There were also many games and contests.
