Mr. R. A. Bagshaw, Superintendent of Schools .fuperintendentff Message Peace in our time is an expression coined by an English statesman just prior to the opening of World. War ll. This expression has been quoted many times since its first utterance and frequently it has been referred to with some degree of derision. The cessation of active and organized warfare during the last twelve months may cause the unthinking citizen to believe that we have actually achieved peace in our time . Great changes must come about in the thinking and the motives of people and of nations before we can feel secure or feel that peace is a reality. Peace can never be real so long as people and nations struggle against each other, either secretly or openly, to gain strength for self by making others weak. Peace can never become a reality so long as class struggles against class to make each other competitively weak. You of the Class of 1946 are graduating at a time when your services as world citizens and statesmen are sorely needed. Your vision must include a wide horizon and your courage in standing for noble convictions must be equal to that of your fathers and elder brothers who have recently been on the field of battle if we are actually to have Hpeace in our timen. Sincerely yours, IQ A r2a,,4,,w Eleven
