NG KAI SUN In a small poorly furnished wood- en hut in New Territories, Hong Kong, l lives a young Chinese boy, Ng Kai Sun. A refuge from Red China, Ng now lives a free life but one which is filled with poverty and depression. Until recently, Ng's family existed on a monthly income of 38.805 however, at the present time Ng is supported by a group of young American Foster parents, the students of Edwin Markham Junior High School. Small of stature for his 10 years, only 3'll , Ng attends the fourth grade at a nearby primary school, where he resides as an attentive, young scholar. He is reported to be a quiet, well-be- haved child who is extremely ambitious and especially interested in everything mechanical. 5 rw' The crisis of young Ng's life came in the year of 1956, when his father died of cancer, leaving four children and a wife in the hands of fate. The mother began work to support her family, but was unable to shoulder all the burdens of her fatherless home. when neither the rent nor the bills could be paid, Ng Kai Sun was taken under the supervision of the Foster Plan Inc. He now receives nourishinigfood, descent clothing, medical care, and a monthly grant of .OO. Markham first recognized the Foster Parent Plan Inc. through Miss Andres and Mrs. Ryberg, who each support a foster child of their own. Realizing the value and importance of such a plan, the school adopted Ng Kai Sun as their foster child and pub- licized the organization to other junior highs. By Pat Figone FQSTER cam: QOMMITTEE This is the committee that is incharge of correspondence with Ng Kai Sun. They have presented an assembly on Ng Kai Sun. Mr Kendall told the Student Body about his visit to Ng Kai Sun as he showed slides, 44
