Miss McCowen's English students express their ideas in themes. Languages And Social Studies Tim Douglas votes in the school presidential election. Almost all our knowledge is gained from communication with other people, and since most of our communications use the English language, it is vital that we use it as well as possible. The English department helps us to understand our language better by teaching us the rules that govern it and introducing us to great authors who have used it well. The appreciation and understanding of the English language may be developed through the study of a foreign language. In the language of a people is reflected their character and customs; by studying their language, we become acquainted with other people and other lands. This year German was added to the foreign language department which also includes Latin, Spanish, and French. In the social studies department the events of the past are studied to gain understanding in solving the problems of the future. The student is taught to accept his responsibility in facing the industrial, social, economic, and political problems which will confront him.
