Page Sponsors JIM JONES, INC. ILLINOIS LUMBER CO. IMBER'S MEN’S WEAR HOME ABSTRACT AND TITLE CO. Football I960 Football is the second largest spectator sport at Edwardsville High School, exceeded in attendance only by basketball. For the participant, it develops strategic thinking and increases physical stamina and ruggedness. The 1960 football Tigers finished the season on November 10, after completing a nine game schedule which extended over a period of nearly two months. The Bengals amassed an overall record of 4 wins and 5 losses, which included a 3-3 record for the six conference games played. Starting off the season promisingly by winning two of their first three contests, the Tigers then fell into a three game drought before rebounding with victories over Granite City and Belleville. Whether the team succeeded or faltered, team captain Tony Penelton was the dominating figure on the field. The second highest scorer in the area, Tony made 126 of the team’s total of 168 points and was placed on the All State Team of Illinois and received many other honors. Coaches Kuethe, Price, and Isselhardt discuss team problems with Tiger ace, Tony Penelton.
