TIGERS I9g STAUNTON I9 Sfring defenses were evidenf in bofh feams. Heinemeier scored fwice in fhe firsf half, leaving fhe score I2 'I'o 6, Tigers. The Bulldogs came back i.n fhe second half wifh a lead of I9 fo I2. Hoppe ran fhe ball over in a 25 yar-d run wifh seconds fo go, and Ray ran fhe exfra poin'I', fo fie fhe game up which ended in a fhriller. The Trojans scored when fhey blocked a kick for a safefy. There was a Iighf rain during fhe secon-d period which seemed +o gel' fhe Tigers rolling. Heinemeier scord bofh fouchdowns, one on a pass from Cool- baugh for a 25-yard score and fhe o'I'her on a line plunge. TIGERS I4g WOOD RIVER 7 The Oilers led Iduring fhe firsf half, 7 fo 0. Hoppe scored in fhe fhird period affer fhe feam foughf a desperafe baffle fo fhe I yard line. Mays saved fhe game when he infercepfed a pass and scored on a 45-yard run in fhe fourfh quarfer. By fhe end of fhe game fhe Tigers had oufclassed 'Ihe opponenfs wifh II 'Io 5 firsf downs, in a fhrilling game. TIGERS 6: GRANITE CITY 26 The Warriors played a rough game in which several players were iniured. AI' fhe end of fhe game we led I'h,em in firsf downs wifh I2 fo I I. Bofh feams used a passing affack wifh mosf of GraniI'e's clicking. We complefed only 5 ouf of 20. Cool- baugh scored on a quarferback sneak, affer four complefe passes and several hard drives. The feam was handicapped by 'I'he absence of Hoppe.
