DEDICATION The 1983 Hornet Yearbook is dedicated to two very special teachers, our kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Donnelly, and our class advisor, Mr. Ward. Mrs. Donnelly started our beginning years at E.C.S., helping us through our first year away from home. Her over- whelming quality of teaching has guided many youngsters since that time and we hope that she will be proud of our future ambitions, knowing that she started our educational career. Thank you for the fond memories that you have given us. We will always cherish them throughout our lives. We would also like to thank your husband, Mr. Donnelly, for all the help that he has given us on our yearbook. Mrs. Donnelly Mr. Ward has been our class advisor for three years. He has put much of his own time and effort into our class activities and money making ventures. We would like to thank him for keeping his “cool” with us, as we know it hasn’t been easy. flFS My name is Helena Nicholson and I come from the Republic of Ireland or Eire as it is called in Irish. Ireland is a small country and is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean and the Irish Sea. I live on a farm in County Meath which is about forty miles from the capital city, Dublin and near the town of Navan. My father is a self employed farmer and my mother is a housewife. I have one sister, Olivia, who will finish school this year and two brothers, Hubert and Matthew, who are still at school. I have enjoyed my AFS year here in Edwards, and have had the opportunity to see the many differences and similarities of the American and the Irish, in such things as schools, the countryside and the way of life of tire people. At the end of October, 1982, the Edwards AFS Chapter hosted an AFS weekend, in which many students from the surrounding area participated and also a number of families in Edwards hosted students for the weekend. This event was enjoyed by everyone and was a great success. In Edwards I live with Richard and Judy Whitmarsh, and my American sisters are Tracy, who is at present studying at CCBI in Syracuse, Lori, who is a senior with me and shares many of my interests, and a brother, Jonathan, who is in the third grade. I would like to thank them all very much as they have been very kind to me and treated me as one of the family. My thanks also to the students at Edwards Central School and especially to the 1983 Senior Class; and also to the staff who have helped make my year such a success. I am also very grateful to the Given family and to the Edwards AFS Chapter for giving me this unique opportunity. I hope to see you all again someday either in America or Ireland. Helena Nicholson 4
