Mrs. Donnelly started our beginning years at E.C.S., helping us through our first year away from home. Her over- whelming quality of teaching has guided many youngsters since that time and we hope that she will be proud of our future ambitions, knowing that she started our educational career. Thank you for the fond memories that you have given us. We will always cherish them throughout our lives. We would also like to thank your husband, Mr. Donnelly, for all the help that he has given us on our yearbook. Mrs. Donnelly Mr. Ward has been our class advisor for three years. He has put much of his own time and effort into our class activities and money making ventures. We would like to thank him for keeping his “cool” with us, as we know it hasn’t been easy. Thank you for all that you have done for our class. We really appreciate it. Mr. Ward flFS My name is Helena Nicholson and I come from the Republic of Ireland or Eire as it is called in Irish. Ireland is a small country and is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean and the Irish Sea. I live on a farm in County Meath which is about forty miles from the capital city, Dublin and near the town of Navan. My father is a self employed farmer and my mother is a housewife. I have one sister, Olivia, who will finish school this year and two brothers, Hubert and Matthew, who are still at school. I have enjoyed my AFS year here in Edwards, and have had the opportunity to see the many differences and similarities of the American and the Irish, in such things as schools, the countryside and the way of life of tire people. At the end of October, 1982, the Edwards AFS Chapter hosted an AFS weekend, in which many students from the surrounding area participated and also a number of families in Edwards hosted students for the weekend. This event was enjoyed by everyone and was a great success. In Edwards I live with Richard and Judy Whitmarsh, and my American sisters are Tracy, who is at present studying at CCBI in Syracuse, Lori, who is a senior with me and shares many of my interests, and a brother, Jonathan, who is in the third grade. I would like to thank them all very much as they have been very kind to me and treated me as one of the family. My thanks also to the students at Edwards Central School and especially to the 1983 Senior Class; and also to the staff who have helped make my year such a success. I am also very grateful to the Given family and to the Edwards AFS Chapter for giving me this unique opportunity. I hope to see you all again someday either in America or Ireland. She was a graduate of Edwards High School, attended Potsdam Normal School, received a B.S. degree from New York University and an M.A. degree from Pratt Institute. Miss Noble taught for 40 years. Teaching first at Hudson, Rome and Rockville Center, then later at Edwards, retiring in 1961. She established the Edwards Museum and every Wednesday found her there doing her town historian duties. Miss Noble was an active member, officer, and past Sunday School teacher of the Edwards Methodist Church. She was on the board of trustees of the Edwards Hepburn Library, a member of Edwards Grange, Senior Citizens, and the Retired Teachers’ Association. She was a past leader of the Brownies, Girl Scouts and Yorker Club. The award of “Citizen of the Year” by the Edwards Lions Club in 1981 was a fitting tribute to a lady who always had a cheerful smile and hello for everyone, time to run any errand, a willingness to try anything, and a great love for life and family. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her — young and old. 11 MflREHING BAND COLOR GUARD - Sandra Bullock, Wes Zeller, Dorna Drake, Betty Jones, Andy Jenness, Rob Knowlton, Karla Jones, Tonya Jones, Kim Bowman, Bonnie Chapin, Sara Barker, Amy Duffy, Linda Butler, Chrystal Shear, Lisa Bowman, Michelle Archer, Cheryl Bullock, Lisa Jones, Becky Bullock, Stephanie Hooper, Audrey Hale. The Lady Hornet softball team finished the 1982 season with an impressive 10 win and 2 loss regular season record under first year coach Steve Robinson. The Hornets’ run for the Division III title was halted early by a first round loss to the Heuvelton Bulldogs. Edwards was led by the brilliant fielding of Lori Whitmarsh, with only three errors in 130 times she handled the ball. Powerhitters Chris Bullock, Lori Whitmarsh, Sue Averill, and Cheryl Given led the attack of the Hornets’ offense. Terri Bullock took care of most of the season’s pitching duties allowing only 3.07 earned runs an outing. The Lady Hornets will be losing seniors Natalie Dean, Kathy Mullaney, Sue Averill, Shirley Waugh, Julie Youngs, and Cheryl Given, but will be looking forward to another fine season as they have a very talented nucleus on which to build in 1983. , .. ; ■ .. f From Left to Right, Row 1: S, Typhair (Manager), Coach Nindl, W. Sectional play was to be short lived as the girls lost in first round competi- tion to Morristown 4-3. Overall, the team scored 47 goals while allowing just 12 in league competition.
