Their first place victories included the Ogdensburg Seaway Festival, The Oswego Gala Fourth of July Parade, and the St. Lawrence County Championship Parade in Gouverneur. At the rescheduled State Fair Championships in Remsen, New York, the band finished a respectable third place in extremely close scoring competition with bands twice their size. The band’s color guard received separate awards for excellence at Remsen and Gouverneur, as did our fine drum majorette, Tina Youngs. After having one undefeated year in competition with other St. Lawrence County bands, our organization’s motto for the 1982 marching season will be “Once is Not Enough”. See you at the parade! Overall 1981 Season Record 1st Place — 8 2nd Place — 2 3rd Place — 1 Special thanks to Mike O’Hearn, Herb Hale, Mr. and Mrs. Mosher, Chuck Typhair, Kevin McGill and Mike Brassard for all the time and effort put forth. Hey Wes, Where’s Your Cape? BOY’S SOCCER The boy’s had a disappointing Soccer season this year, missing the playoffs by one game with a slate of 5-7. Key performances were from Ken Davison, who set a school record of 7 goals in one game, 23 seasonal goals and 18 assists, Bill Davison and Chris Averill who both added 6 goals and 7 assists. Mike O’Hearn, Herb Hale, and Matt Hart all added individual efforts to a tough defense. The Hornets are looking for a good season next year with on- ly two graduating seniors and a good deal of young talent. The two seniors made First Team in the All-Northern selection. Mike O’Hearn as goalie and Ken Davison at line. Ken was also chosen player of the year of 1981. J Bottom L. to R.: V. Zeller, S. Bullock, N. Dean, S. Towne, T, Bullock, M Archer, S. Towne, R. GIRLS’ SOCCER Coach Steve Robinson’s first experience coaching girls’ soccer proved to be a very successful year. The Lady Hornets’ league record was 9-2-1, losing their first and last games of the season. The girls went on to win the Divi- sion III title by defeating Heuvelton 4-2. In the first playoff game against Hermon, the girls lost a hard fought bat- tle by the score 2-1. Next year the Lady Hornets will lose seven players including four starters: Sue Averill — fullback, Kathy Mullaney — center halfback, Shirley Waught — right half back and Natalie Dean — left halfback. Other seniors are Brenda Paro, Cheryl Given, and Julie Youngs — all fullbacks. 3 Bottom L. to R.: R. Gagnon, R. Clinstman, R. Whitford, J. Mullaney, ]. Clark, 2nd L. to R.: M. Hart, K. Davison, H. VARSITY BASKETBALL The 1981-82 boys basketball team enjoyed a very successful year. Although the Hornets started off the first half of the season with a 3-5 slate, they came back to win 8 in a row including big upsets over Heuvelton, Morristown, Lisbon, and Harrisville. At the time of publication, the Hornets had not yet gone to the play-offs, but the chances looked good for Section X victory. Ken Davison and Mike O’Hearn were the only seniors; both of these players were nominated for All-Northern along with Bill Davison. The Hornets look forward to another successful season next year. 26 First Row: T. Youngs, S. Waugh, N. Dean, K. Mullaney, M. McCormick. Second Row: M. Archer, S. Averill, L. Whitmarsh. The center slot was filled by the towering Wes Zeller who would rather slam his opponent than look for his rebound. Completing the first string, and playing in the forward slots, were the aggressive efforts of Tracy Typhair and Scott Kroniser. Key players from the bench were T. J. LaPlant and Gary Hall, who always pull- ed through in a pinch. Other important players on the bench were: Jerry Wier, Bryan Davison, Mike McCor- mick, and Jeff Zeller. This impressive line-up brought home 4 out of 6 trophies at their Christmas tourney and a perfect 16-0 record. CONGRATULATIONS! Left, to Right: M. Whitmarsh, V. Zeller, C. Bullock, S. Towne, B. High scorers for the Hornets are Chrissy Bullock and Kathy Mullaney. Next year the girls will lose only two players: Kathy Mullaney — starting guard and Cheryl Given — for- ward. With good prospects coming up from the J.V. squad, the Lady Hornets hope to have a successful season next year. A 30 4th, 5th, 6th BASKETBALL Bottom L. to R.: B. Billings, S. Typhair, R. BASEBALL The 1981 Baseball team enjoyed a very successful season with an overall record of 9-4. The Hornets won the Division III West title and went into the playoffs against a very tough Morristown group. Although the Hornets fought long and hard without giving up hope, they lost the game 9-6. Graduating seniors were: Vern Davison, Bill LaPlant, and Edwing Jaimes. The 1982 Baseball team is looking forward to a good season with six starters returning and a great deal of young potential. There were five All-Northern selections this year, the most on any team in the league. Ken and Vern Davison, Mike O’Hearn, and Matt Hart made First Team, with Chris Averill on Second Team. n o 0 ’ Q- 1 “ tM Uiti 31, —- ,,, , a 6 0 KJ. irif ®fV ft t v rt Wjei ' i;m fM ? % H i Bottom — Left To Right — S.
