Hamish HAMISH My name is Hamish McLeod and I live in Brisbane, Austra- ilia. Brisbane has a population of approximately 950,000, and is the capital city of the state of Queensland. My father is a mining engineer and my mother is a housewife. I have one elder brother, an elder sister, and a younger sister. Being an exchange student is such a rewarding experience, and it is difficult to convey all that I have learned throughout this year. I would encourage anyone interested to participate in this program, as the gains are practically immeasurable. My sincerest thanks must go to the Webb family, who have opened their home for me, and accepted me as one of their own. I would also like to thank the Edwards AFS chapter, all the teachers at ECS, and all the other people in the community. Finally, I would like to thank all the students at ECS. I will be taking home so very many happy memories. I would sincerely hope that anyone visiting AustraiIia could come and visit me. AFS EXCHANGE STUDENTS TURKIKE I lived in a country that was at the border between Europe and Asia. Turkey had many different customs and beliefs. The city which I lived in was Aydin, with approximately 60,000 people. The Ulvi Akin family made me feel like a part of their family. I also lived in another city, Izmir, for 3-4 weeks. This city is a seaport and is larger and more modern than Aydin. My father, Ulvi, is an engineer at a milk homogenizing plant and my mother, Urksel, is a housewife. I have two sisters. Funda and Aysun, and a brother, Allaattin. I learned a great deal about religious beliefs, customs, and language. The Turkish language has many word sentences such as: Bismillahirrahmanirrahim, which means In the name of God, the Compassionate, the Merciful. AFS has brought a lot of knowdedge and many great experi- ences in to my life. I'll never forget my adventure and want to thank the Edwards AFS chapter, AFS International, and my family here in Edwards. 11 Donna Thornton
