Walk together, Talk together, All ye people of the earth. Then and only then Shall ye have peace. A.F.S. Creed When I was notified last June by the Americans Abroad Program that I was chosen to spend the summer in France, I didn’t know what to expect. Now that 1 am back in Edwards, I know that this summer that passed so quickly gave me a deeper understanding of my interre- lated worlds. 1 became a part of the Chombart de Lauwe family, learn- ing about French custom and language. 1 also learned about lasting friendship, love, and understanding between people. I was able to look at my own country from the eyes of another, and now with broadened perceptions. I hope to return someday to my French family, for lasting ties have been made. I Heather Holcombe—Australia The year 1969-70 has been a very special one for me. It was during this time that I was very privileged to become an A.F.S. student, a member of the Duffy family, a resident of Edwards, and a student at E.C.S. All of these experi- ences have combined to make my year here exciting, happy, and an educational one. A.F.S. has given me a greater feeling of belonging in a world where friend- ship and peace are not based on race or religion, but on how much one is willing to give to bring about this international understanding. The Duffy family has given me their time, guidance, and love, and although in the future we will be separated by thousands of miles, I will always feel that I am a member of their family. To the people of Edwards and students of E.C.S., I say thank-you” for your generosity and friendship. To anyone visiting Australia, my home is open to you as you have opened your hearts to me. And someday I will return to my home in Edwards. 16
