It was during this time that I was very privileged to become an A.F.S. student, a member of the Duffy family, a resident of Edwards, and a student at E.C.S. All of these experi- ences have combined to make my year here exciting, happy, and an educational one. A.F.S. has given me a greater feeling of belonging in a world where friend- ship and peace are not based on race or religion, but on how much one is willing to give to bring about this international understanding. The Duffy family has given me their time, guidance, and love, and although in the future we will be separated by thousands of miles, I will always feel that I am a member of their family. To the people of Edwards and students of E.C.S., I say thank-you” for your generosity and friendship. To anyone visiting Australia, my home is open to you as you have opened your hearts to me. And someday I will return to my home in Edwards. 16 Walk together, Talk together, All ye people of the earth. Then and only then Shall ye have peace. A.F.S. Creed When I was notified last June by the Americans Abroad Program that I was chosen to spend the summer in France, I didn’t know what to expect. Now that 1 am back in Edwards, I know that this summer that passed so quickly gave me a deeper understanding of my interre- lated worlds. 1 became a part of the Chombart de Lauwe family, learn- ing about French custom and language. 1 also learned about lasting friendship, love, and understanding between people. I was able to look at my own country from the eyes of another, and now with broadened perceptions. I hope to return someday to my French family, for lasting ties have been made. Band is one of the largest extracurricular activities in our school. Our senior band, under the direction of Peter Pelu- so in his first year at E.C.S., plays many different varieties of music. Aside from our Senior band, which involves grades 9-12, stu- dents in grades 6-8 are prepared for the Senior band by partici- pating in the Junior Band. Grade School students are introduced in- to instrumental music by being permitted to join the Beginner’s Band. Also, some of our Senior band members have formed, with the help of Mr. Peluso, a stage band which plays many kinds of con- temporary music. 32 'Iduo I was originally from Newburgh, New York. State University College at Potsdam is my Alma Mater where I was a Crane student. I had never heard of Edwards until notified of a job opening. Upon arriving in September, 1 was surprised by the spirit and the potential of the band I was to work with. It has been a fantastic musical experience for me and I look forward to next year. 33 Chuck Stevens, Alan Minckler, Craig Wood, Dick Lea, Jeff Hill, Steve Hartley, Danny Guerton, John Hill, Coach Harper, Dale Freeman, Mike McDonald, Pete Matejcik, Robert Morehouse, Danny Osborne, Frank Solon, Ronnie Bearor, Robert McFerran. This year’s J.V. team is the first 10-0 team from our school in recent years. Although we weren’t the biggest team, we possessed all around skills in ball handling, shooting, and re- bounding. Next years team will have many of the same boys and is expected to have a fine per- formance in play next year. 36 HouteU ott tU Wove Coach Evan Harper, Frank Solon, Jamie Archer, Tri-Captain Pete Matejcik, Brent Wood, Tri-Captain Steve Zaluski, Tri- Captain Dick Facey, Ron Bearor, Dale Freeman, George Dodds. The Hor- nets, although a smaller club, out hustled the bigger Indians. The game was full of thrills which were capped off by the freeze in the final quarter.
