DEDICATION We, the class of 1967, came, timid and be- wildered, to Edwards Central School in September, 1954. There in the kindergarten room to make us feel at home, comfort our weeping, and show us the books and toys was Mrs. McFerran. We were her first kindergarten class; she was our first teacher, and we feel that it is fitting to dedicate this yearbook to Mrs. Ruth McFerran, a teacher who has continued her own education while teaching and guiding her small pupils. 6 Level 4 - Level 7 - Mrs. Smith Level 1 - Mrs. Kerr Level 5 - Mrs. Brown Kdg. When you think of a high school, what do you see? This is the picture that comes to me: A high school is people—teenagers and all. It's assemblies and classes and a rush in the hall. It's panic at report cards; it's green and white; It's thrills and excitement and a little fright. Suspense fills the hallways, and rivalry’s keen. All yearn for a scholarship; who will be Queen? A high school means projects and clubs with their fun, And everyone working till all tasks are done; Tense moments at ball games—will we win or not? That Hornet spirit means more than we thought! What is a high school? What is its story? We've told it here in all of its glory! 20 c. Brayton B. Clement J. Cole J. Dodds P. Duffy D. Freeman M. Fuller S. Fuller D. Given W. Gosselin D. Hurley G. Children are such devils! Dramatics Association has been an active organization in E.C.S. for three years. It is made up of students who enjoy any and all aspects of dramatic production from acting to pulling the curtain. Each year the Dra- matics has played a large part in the Christmas entertainment. We have also put on a number of assemblies. Most important is the annual fall production when every effort is made to offer the public a first rate play, both in selection and presentation. Occasionally the members of the group take in a theatrical venture in an area school or college; last year we made trips to Postdam State and St. Laurence University. We are trying to ac- complish a two-fold purpose, to offer the people of Edwards an opportunity for enjoyment and also to increase in ourselves in the knowledge of one of the greatest arts in the world. 44 STAMP CLUB The Stamp Club meets every Wednesday night. There are several reasons for our interest in stamps. Beautiful colors and designs make acquisition of many stamps desirable. For a serious collector, the history of the world unfolds and new countries are born, governments change, people are honored, events and accomplishments are recorded. For any collector, the sociability of comparing and discuss- ing new finds make the whole thing worth while. New members are always welcome. The only requirement is the desire to collect stamps. The only cost is for any stamps purchased. Mike Conklin, Mrs. Hughes--advisor, Lloyd Perry, Donna Donaldson, Pamela Lea. FUTURE TEACHERS ROW 1: K. Dodds, R. Peck, D. Gagnon, T. VanHouse, P. Jones, J. AFS STUDENT CHARAS UBOL Edwards AFS Chapter was organized in 1962 under the leadership of Mr. Wagner, who was social studies teacher at the time. A combined World Trade Fair and Sesqui-Centennial Celebration initiated the program and financed its first year. Since then we have had five students from different parts of the globe who have lived with families in the community, have come to know a part of America that isn't often depicted in movies and books, and have brought us an understanding and appreciation of their culture. This year's student is Charas Ubol, from Thailand, who is living with Rev. and Mrs. Edward Simmons. Charas comes from a village, Chawang, Nakorn Srithamaraj in the southern part of Thailand, and his father has a farm which produces rice. The AFS chapter finances the program by three events: a bazaar early in December, the spring concert by the Music department, where voluntary donations go to the AFS, and the Share Sale in April or May, in which solicitors canvass the town asking people to buy a share of friendship. We feel that our students from Turkey, the Philippines, Australia, Guatemala, and Thailand have helped us to truly appreciate the AFS motto: Hands Around the World. It is better to light one small candle Than curse the darkness. 47 At times we thought we couldn't, At times we thought we wouldn't, Our minds are wracked. Our backs are stooped. The Hornet is here And we are POOPED! 48 w . i'
