Ziya Ilhan Ugurel (Smiley) After the SeLjuk civilization came to the Anatolia, Konya became the capital of the Empire The famous Aladdin who was the subject to the long-told tale was a Seljuk Sultan and ruins of his palace is in Konya. In addition to these there are a lot of historical remains from the Seljuks which attracts thousands of tourists to Konya every year. Today's Konya is in the process of modernization and expansion. She is proud of being the wheat bowl of Turkey having one-third of the total population. After the graduation in Edwards my year in this friendly town of friendly people will come to an end. After a 3-week to one month bus-tour around the country I will head towards Turkey and I hope to be with my family in the last days of next July. I must say that this year of mine in Edwards will be of great benefit to me for several reasons. First of all I will be knowing a lot of things about this country which aren't in the textbooks and especially I will be getting to know the people who make up this great land. Also I will have a lot of practice with my English which undeniably will prove essential in my further studies. Also thanks to this one-year visit of mine for a lot of new experiences in many things. Yes, I feel that I miss the bicycle rides we used to take in the country side, our vine- yard and fruit garden in which I used to have a lot of fun, my friends whom I can't forget and my town and people whom I knew and understood, but I am still happy because here the people around me have understood me; my classmates did their best to make me feel at home; I have a wonderful family who are as dear to me as my own, and my teachers were more than kind tome. I think this two-sided understanding and love is the key to International Peace and Friendship. I can't help praising the American people in this respect because of what they've done and are doing all over the world. The Turkish nation has a great respect for the people of this country and we all believe that unless an understanding and respect for humanity exists among the people on this earth every hope for a long term peace won't have the slighest effect. I have hoped and prayed for this. This is a story on our foreign exchange student from Turkey. We are all very thankful that for the first time this year, Edwards Central School could have the pleasure of being host to one. OUR SINCERE WELCOME, Ilhan, from all the students at Edwards Central School and the people of the Town. Best Wishes Always. Kay Webb
