To the Underclassmen, we leave bags of money to pay bills, behavior manuals, and many happy years of high school. 14 Witnesseth: The Chipmunks Class Prophecy We walk into a neighborhood movie where there is a premier showing of a new movie intended to go to Russia, showing the Russians a cross-section of an average small town, Ed- wards, U.S.A. We cast the class of 1959 as the players and have recorded their achievements as follows: Joanne Adams - a breeder of thorough-bred horses; her favorite, Champion has won the Kentucky Derby. William Adams - a Pharmacist in a new drug store in Edwards; inventor of a new pill that causes one to use one’s brain. Robin Archer - an Air Force veteran, now a great flyer. Sherrill Barraford - a legal secretary and graduate of C. C. B. I. James Bridgeland - promoter of silent movies with his quiet ways. Linda Brown - a registered nurse with a patent on baby powder for diaper rash. Patty Cameron - a winner in the Singer Sewing Machine Contest; her prize is a trip to Hawaii and $1,000,000. Gloria Coloney - a secretary to a millionaire dude rancher. Flora Denton - an owner in a dress design shop in Edwards. Keith Goodheart - gossip columnist for the Edwards Journal. Margaret Rohde - a permanent Nurse’s Aid in Edwards Central SchooL Allen Rowe - a leader in the colony of beatniks; also has a program THE RETURN OF BEATNIKS TO AMERICA. Joyce Rowe - an elevator operator in a certain hotel in Syracuse. Jane Watson - a Physical Education teacher at Edwards Central School. Stillman Soper - a barker introducing his new side show act in the E.C.S. gym. Ted Travis - a winner in the Indianapolis Grand prix. Boyd Webb - was just allowed to accept the Nobel prize for Physics. Clarence Zeller - a replacement for Yogi Berra as catcher with the New York Yankees. The cast and production committees worked very ef- ficiently and cooperatively to produce this play which was well received by the audience. Varsity The Edwards Central School basketball team turned an outstanding record for the 1958-59 cam- paign, winning the Oswegatchie Valley League and Playoff championships and taking the runnerup spot in the Section 10 tournament. Playing under the direction of Coach Hal Gillette, the team turned in an impressive 19-1 record for the season. After reeling off nineteen consecutive victories for a new school record, the club was defeated by the strong Madrid-Waddington five in the Section 10 Championship game 45-39. In the Section 10 tournament Edwards eliminated Heuvelton 51-39 and Brushton-Moira 53-47 to reach the finals only to be stymied by Madrid Waddington. Edwards tallied an average of 63.4 points per game and finished the schedule with a total of 1267 points. Its opposition scored 925 points, an average of 46.3 markers per contest. Four players scored over 150 points for the season. Those were Clarence Zeller, Roger Dusharm, Dave Schryer and Bob Sykes. There was a great interest by the girls. A large number of girls participated in a series of playdays throughout the year. Our first was a soccer playday at Tupper Lake, in which the girls won first prize. They also participated in a playday at Russell consisting of badminton, table tennis and shuffleboard. In basketball the girls played a hard-fought game winning after three minutes overtime. A volleyball playday at Ogdensburg is also planned. In recent years it was not required to wear a gym suit, but do to the interest and cooperatoion of the girls it is now required to wear a gym suit and they will con- tinue to do so.
