PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE The time no longer exists when you can afford to regard your educa- tion as a private affair. You must remember— Individual responsibility is a rarer quality than the responsibility of leadership. This responsi- bility must be accepted by those trained in the tradition of freedom and the dignity of man. No enemy outside, no new atomic weapon is so dangerous to our future as your failure to accept democratic responsibilities, since you are the beneficiaries of a civilized tradition. We are living in troubled and uncertain times, and you must be pre- pared fr whatever the future may hold for you. I feel confident that you, the members of the class of 1951, will not fail in your responsi- bilities ard that you will carry on in the true American tradition.
