Administration The members and the staff of the 1950-1951 Edwardian dedicate this issue to the hopes for a new building addition so that in the future our school may offer more diversified educational opportunities. PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE The time no longer exists when you can afford to regard your educa- tion as a private affair. You must remember— Individual responsibility is a rarer quality than the responsibility of leadership. This responsi- bility must be accepted by those trained in the tradition of freedom and the dignity of man. No enemy outside, no new atomic weapon is so dangerous to our future as your failure to accept democratic responsibilities, since you are the beneficiaries of a civilized tradition. We are living in troubled and uncertain times, and you must be pre- pared fr whatever the future may hold for you. I feel confident that you, the members of the class of 1951, will not fail in your responsi- bilities ard that you will carry on in the true American tradition. The Present is around us—passing away- passing away. And We? We must look not mournfully into the Past. It is gone; Improve the Present— It is yours; So go— Go joyously into the Future. A book is a key, for as a key opens a door, so does a book open a way to knowledge. Opening your Edwardian won't bring you a wealth of knowledge, but perhaps it will be your key to some pleasant memories. 10 CLASS HISTORY We, the class of 1951, have finally come to the destination which we began to seek in 1939. First, to review briefly our elementary training, the class started out with 11 members under the supervision of Miss Margaret Sullivan. They were: Charles Bleau, Ronald Brayton, Wayne Ellis, Merton Goodale, Harold Whitmarsh, Pat Ray, Joanne Watson, Shirley Bleau, Ruth Van Duzee, Helen Manchester, and Barbara Holmes. The following are students who were in the class at one time or another during the first eight years: Larry Brown, Stanley Donaleski, Ann Bleau, Everett Brown, Aubrey Chapin, Donals Davenport, Kermit McGill, Harold Aldridge, Janette Chapin, Phillis Yancey, Lucy Schwerdfager, Gail Fuller, Donald Rhode, James Smith, Weldon Weir, Marian Weir, Henry Johnston, Helen Hogue, Emma Fenton, Alice Bowman, Edward Bevins, Louis Zaluski, Edward Butler, Harold Sibley, George Finley, Durwood Bogardus, David Jones, There Thornton. We started our Freshman year with the following members: Harold Whitmarsh, Kermit McGill, Francis Robers, James Smith, Louis Zaluski, Faye Doyle, Clinton Hendricks, Janette Chapin, Larry Brown, Gail Fuller, Olive Webb, Harold Aldridge, George Finley, Harriet Denteon, Arlene Hartle, Lucy Schwerdfager, Joanne Watson, and Arland Bui lick. Class Advisor Miss Bloomfield Secretary Treasurer r Class Advisor 11 CLASS PROPHECY Gazing into our crystal ball we get a glimpse of the future. HAROLD ALDRIDGE is a Colonel in the French Foreign Legion. The Army life got in his blood when he was in Korea playing ping-pong. SONNY BULLOCK married an heiress and is on Easy Street. He builds sky- scrapers, you know. Papa-in-law is a multi-magnate. JANETTE CHAPIN has been Superintendent of Presbyterian Medical Center in New York for at least 10 years. Outstanding work in the field of medicine has given her this distinction. GAIL FULLER has just taken General Douglas MacArthur's position. The United States' Government has decided to end wars once and for all! CLINT HENDRICKS just awakened from a 20-year nap. High school just wore him out so he decided to play Rip Van Winkle. Glad you're back, Clint. SHIRLEY MANTLE just completed another box-office movie hit. The producers say she's the greatest thing in movies since Betty Grable. JOANNE WATSON is Dean of Woinen at Syracuse University. After many years of successful teaching she has attained her goal. We hear rumors of a coming marriage—Jo-Jo finally settled on a Fitzgerald. SNOOK ZALUSKI just opened another night club on Broadway. This tavern business has really expanded. . . . Zaiuski Incorporated now owns 12 night clubs and several other smaller establishments. CLASS WILL To Miss laria, our class advisor, we leave hopes for a little Pratt. (She became Mrs. Pratt in December.) To Miss McGill we leave longer vacations so she may better enjoy her trips to New York. To Mrs. Holmes we leave an advance order on Social Studies books so next year's Seniors will have texts. To Miss Akam we leave a new blue Buick—undamaged. To Mr. Fletcher we leave a suit of armor to help fend off the Sophomore girls. To Miss Hartford we leave a larger sewing and home furnishing class for next year. To Mr. Rose we leave a helper, to clean up the debris after a chalk fight. To the Freshman Class we leave hopes that you all graduate in 1954! To the Sophomore Class we leave bigger and better parts in plays. Keep it up! To the Junior Class we leave our seats by the windows. You'll love the atmosphere. To Mr. Davidson we leave some level ground so he won't step in another hole and break the other ankle. To Mr. McFarland we leave a piggy bank in case his wallet gets flat. To Marge Cassidy we leave a couple more arms for typing up notices to the students and teachers. To Miss Sargent we leave Snook's Ford to carry scenery from the Barraford School. To Mrs. Woodman we leave a bass player and a clarinet player. Joanne and Gail will cause a vacancy. Harold Aldridge leaves his way with twins to Paul Osborne. Snook Zaluski leaves Jim Todd his way with the fair sex. Clint Hendricks leaves his smooth disposition to Ken Paro. Shirley Mantle leaves her ability as a 10 o'clock scholar to Cynthia Adams. Joanne Watson leaves her place on the cheering squad to Shirley Lutz, Hazel Hall leaves Maryanne Watecjik a chance with Gail Fuller. The Senior Class leaves its ambition to Aubrey Chapin. Snook Zaluski leaves his 6 feet of height to Jim Todd. To Tom Todd we leave some knee pads for crawling on the floor when the lights go out. Joanne Watson leaves her popularity with the Gouverneur boys to Maryanne Matejcik. Sonny Bullock leaves Mable to his brother, Leland. Let's keep it in the family! Gail Fuller leaves his dimples to Marjorie Hurley. Harold Aldridge leaves his mustache to Paul Osborne. % , - -i 13 r FRESHMEN MRS. ALTHEA HOLMES EIGHTH GRADE MRS.
