Most students agree that this is the greatest single improve- ment in our school this year. NEW DEPARTMENTS A Commercial Department was added this year in charge of Miss Iaria. The following courses were offered this year: Introduction To Business, Short Hand, Typing, Business Arith- metic. Next year other courses will be offered so that students may major in this field. Except for a short time at the beginning of World War II, no physical Education has been offered in Edwards until this year. Mr. Terry is the teacher and he served as coach for Football, Junior Varsity coach for basketball, and is now coaching base- ball. The school year 1948-’49 started out very fine With Edwards centralized for the first time The football trophy the boys did capture And from those shields they did get a rapture The cafeteria was started late in the fall Which displeased the students not at all Then the seniors did the elections foretell When Dewey for President they did not sell The basketball season started out very well Until we met Clifton-Fine when we did not do so swell Then Mrs. Webb felt she had to resign Mrs. Fuller to substitute, did not decline In December the grades did brighten the season With a Christmas operetta-they had good reason The January Regents came and went And we had a black list of evil intent Then the next month the students went out on a strike This, neither the Board nor some of the teachers, did like This winter we didn’t have much snow And the seniors never did put on their show Then came the play-offs, which we lost Just two more cups is what it cost In the sectionals, it seemed almost a sin To get to the finals and then not to win But the boys back a trophy did bring They were best in their class-let the bells ring Mrs. Smith did Edwards Central School leave For a bigger school, we did perceive So the Board hired Mrs. Boulet To rescue the band, we really can say
