MISS SARAH ENWRIGHT, B.A. French Born in Calais, Maine. Prepared at St. Stephen High School. Received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Acadia College. Did graduate work at Bates, McGill, Harvard, and the University of Paris. Before coming to Edward Little in 1922, she taught in Guilford, Maine. Adviser for College Board examinations and for scholar- ships. MAXWELL M. ERSKINE, B.A., M. Ed. Chemistry Born in Presque Isle, Maine. Attended elementary and secondary schools in Easton, Maine. Received B.A. degree in Chemistry and Master of Education degree from University of Maine. Served as principal of the high school in St. George, Islesboro, Carmel, Jackman, and Unity, and has taught in Easton and Bar Harbor High School. Came to Edward Little in 1952. Business adviser of the 'KOracle. MRS. ANN J. FOSDICK Dramatic Coach Born in Washington, Pennsylvania. Prepared at Pea- body High School, Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. Attended School of Drama, Carnegie Institute of Technology, Pittsburg, Summer School, Kings School of Oratory, Knoxville, five years in Professional Theatre, Director of Community Little Theatre, Faculty adviser for the Dramatic Club and Director of the Senior Class Play. MISS MARGARET GARDNER, B.A. English Born in Brunswick, Maine. Prepared at Edward Little High School. Was graduated from Bates College with a Bachelor of Arts degree. Attended summer sessions at Bates, Boston University, and Emerson. New England Summer Workshop in 1949. Before cozming to Edward Little in 1943, she taught at Norridgewock, Old Orchard Beach, and at Brewer, Maine. She is on the Assembly Board, and is on the Junior Class Committee, and the Oracle' Staff. DONALD M. GAY, B.A. Music Born in Casco, Maine. Prepared at Casco High School, attended the University of Maine, where he received the Bachelor of Arts degree. Before coming to Edward Little in 1944, he taught at Berwick Academy, Spaulding High School, Rochester, New Hampshire, and Williams College. He is the director of the Band and Chorus. 13

FRANK G. COOPER, JR., A.B. English Born in Philadelphia, Penn. Was educated in public schools of Beverly, Mass., Shaker School, Sabbathday Lake, Pennell Institute, Gray, and Bates College, Maine. Participated in football, track, and glee club while at college. Came to Edward Little in 1952. Faculty ad- viser to Debate Club, Assistant Coach of Track. MISS VIRGINIA CROSSMAN, B.S. Girls' Physical Education Instructor Born in Marlborough, Massachusetts. Prepared at Weymouth High School. Received her Bachelor of Sci- ence Degree in Physical Education at Boston University, College of Physical Education, Sargent. Has taught at Boston University Sargent Camp, Concord High School in Massachusetts, and in Lawrence High School in Maine. Recreation Director in Natick, Massachusetts. Faculty Adviser of the Girls' Athletic Association, of the Cheer- leaders, and of the Assembly Board. Charge of Queen's Court for the Winter Carnival, Coach for Auburn Recreation Department. MISS DOROTHEA A. DOWELL, B.A., M.A. History and Sociology Born in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. Prepared at Dow Academy, Franconia, New Hampshire. Received her degrees from the University of New Hampshire. Attended summer sessions at the University of Idaho and the American Universitv, Washington, D. C. Participated in the 1949 Yale University field trip to Great Britain. Taught in Idaho and Bridgton, Maine, before coming to Edward Little in 1947. Faculty chairman for Carnival Ball and Senior Dance. Assistant faculty chairman for Junior-Senior Prom. MISS HELEN F. DOWNS, B.A. Home Economics Born in Skowhegan, Maine. Prepared at South Port- land High School. Was graduated from Nasson College where she received the Bachelor of Science Degree in Home Economics. She has taught at Epping, New Hampshire and in Falmouth High School in Falmouth. Maine. Attended University of Maine summer session in 1949. LINWOOD L. DWELLEY, B.S. Science and Physical Education Director of Winter Sports Born in Calais, Maine. Prepared at Maine Central Institute. Was graduated from University of Maine with Bachelor of Science degree in Education. Played foot- ball at preparatory school and college. Was a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity. Did graduate work at Bates College and University of Michigan. He was a teacher-coach at Fort Kent and at Calais before coming to the Auburn schools in 1930. During the summer he is proprietor of Wilderness Canoe Trips for Boys. 12

STEPHEN GRENDA, B.A., M.A. Director of Athletics, Physical Education, Head Coach of Football Born in Lawrence, Massachusetts. Prepared at Law- rence High School. Was graduated from Columbia Uni- versity where he received his Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees. Coached at Columbia Univer- sity, Manhattan College, University of Delaware. Was Director of Athletics at Floyd Bennett Field, and Batta- lion Commander at Navy Pre-Flight School in North Carolina. Discharged from the U. S. Navy with grade of Lieutenant. Came to Edward Little in 1946. ROBERT W. GUMB, B.A. Driver Education Born in Methuen, Massachusetts. Was graduated from Methuen High School, Massachusetts Radio School, Boston, Massachusetts, and Bates College with a Bachelor of Arts degree. Graduate work at the Center for Safety Education, New York University. Taught Driver Educa- tion at Fort Fairfield High School for two years. Was Radio and Radar instructor in U. S. Marine Corps during World War II. Teaches Driver Education at E. L. H. S. MISS GWENDOLYN G. HARDY, R.N. School Nurse Born in Woolwich, Maine. Prepared at Edward Little and Lewiston High Schools. Was graduated from the Central Maine General Hospital School of Nursing, Lewiston, Maine, and received training in Public Health Nursing at Simmons College. Was itinerant nurse on Matinicus Island, Maine, staff nurse at Lewiston and Auburn Red Cross, and Androscoggin County School Nurse. She is a member of the State and National Nurs- ing Associations. Attended summer sessions at Simmons College in 1948 and 1949. Instructor of Red Cross Home Nursing. MRS. JOSEPHINE T. HAYDEN, B.A. English Born in River Forest, Illinois. Prepared at Benton Harbor High School, Benton Harbor, Michigan. Was graduated from Boston University where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree. Has taught in Evening School in Wellesley, Massachusetts, and has taught English and Science in Newton High School in Massachusetts. She is a member of Sigma Kappa Sorority. Chairman of Class Night.
