L DOCUMENTARY: SHOULD CRAZY, eCHILDISHM DIFFERENT, tOR PROMOTIONAL CAMPAIGNS BE ALLOWED IN LIBBEY? Should crazy, wild and chaotic promotional campaigns be carried out at Libbey High School? It seems to me that Lib- bey has such apathy that a little excitement in the form of promotion of various projects certainly cannot hurt. This year, the EDELIAN attempted to make the selling of the yearbooks a little more exciting than the usual, tlBuy a yearbook, it costs . . . blah, blah . . Fl We tried everything from stickers that said ltGrin on them, to inventing a mascot-Super-Kiweet, who was a cross between a parakeet and a kiwi. Corny yes, but we tried everything to get the school active. For this, we were condemned because our campaigns were Tan insult to our intelligence? When the world loses its sense of humor, then we are all in a lot of trouble. Look on T.V.; read the newspapers and you will find hundreds of advertising campaigns that sound itchild- ishll but appeal to adults! The EDELIAN should not be the only group to try various forms of promotion. Clubs, if you need to raise funds, or collect memberships, use some appeal and imagination. If EVERYONE would pitch in, school, and activities would be a little more enjoyable. The Grin sticker that distributed throughout Libbeyi ttSuper-Kiweetll thejaded hero ofthe Edelian morning announcements. Should crazy, wild, and chaotic promotional exampaigns be, carried out at Libbey High School? I feel that although it is good to generate school spirit, it shouldnlt be done by listening to a bird dying of y overoindulgencezraktaatparty. Letls be realistic. We are not pre-Schooligor elementary children. LWe are young adults who, are Vigoiing out intoif the world in only a few 'sh'ort'years. The majbrity Oflus- R Libbey. Ilm sure that if tldifferent promotional campaigns, were needed, then the persons responsible could certainly write an imaginative, yet appealing campaign for persons of our intelligence and age levels. I feel insulted, because to me, these ads are telling me their messagetin a ltkiddyll tone, much like you would see on lLt'Sesame Street,, or uRomper Room? I am nOt saying that promotion should go back to the drab, dull, everyday'items that you hear constantly, but these promotional campaigns should be tuned more to the needs of high school students and not to children. Therefore, I feel that advertising is great to get the message across, but when not treated properly, it gets the wrong meaning across. v -

Rather than risk a suit against the EDELIAN, HAD to include a bit of news from every section. The news from the Faculty Section, here and further on, are these'tpricelesst faculty pictures. tOh yes, we are blackmailing anyone whose pictures we still have in our files - we need the money very badlyh The Staff wmulhx ht sh
