W. $.t Two great ports . . . Toledo, our hometown, and Libbey, our school . . . have been integral factors in our preparation for facing the problems of life. Just as Toledo has become a gateway for world trade through its strategic position on the St. Lawrence Seaway, so Libbey has become for its students a gateway to a greater knowledge and better understanding of the world in which we live. A port, by its nature, is both a center of activity and a point of departure. Our city of Toledo has served as a center for preparing an ever increasing variety of shipments for their ultimate destinations throughout the world. Similarly, Libbey has helped the stu- dents chart their courses for the future so that after four years of essential preparation they can depart, equipped for success in their chosen fields of endeavor.

Just as a key opens a lock, similarly out high school education will open for us a whole new future. Each friend, teacher, or experience at Libbey has been a key to add to our ability to cope with the new challenges and undertakings which life will Present. And just as different keys open different locks, the knowledge and understanding which these individuals have given us will open separate doors to the world and to our maturity.
