The department offered a variety of courses including Typing, Business Law. Shorthand. Business Machines, Office Prac- tice. Bookkeeping, and Business Arithmetic. This department provided extensive business training PRISCILLA KASE X to hundreds of Ldmondson students. Many of these V'I,f students participated in the Work Study program offered by the department. CLADYS HEFFNER DOROTHY HOOZE Department Helm' English The English Department made important Contributions to the educational goals nl Edmondson High School. Its faculty under the direction lvl Hrs. Cladys Heflner reviewed and rexised its teaching ol reading. writing. and teflmirfal skills. The department was also responsible for the develop- ment of a unit on Better Study Hahits which was taught to all English elasses at the beginning of the year. The unit was so successful that it will he revised and offered again next school year. Additional rooms were occupied hy the English De- partment. An important feature uf these rooms is that they can he adjusted to acroinmorlate groups of varying sizes. This will enalile the department to put into opera- tion its plan for team teaching. XV. taut MARY CURTIS AGNES HERBERT Department Head Mathematics This year Edmondson had a tenth grade experimental mathematics course which was the result uf new advance courses taken during the summer hy teachers and students from many of the secondary schools. In presenting this modern mathematics course. the department followed the recommendations of the College Board Commissionls Report. Miss Mary Curtis. head of the department. represented Edmondson on the committee which sponsored the 4-ourse. under the guidance of Mr. William J. Gerartli. Supervisor of Secondary Klathematics. The Mathematics Department sponsored the showcases in our lobbies which featured visual aids and modern proh- lems which could he solved by mathematics. These vases stimulated the interests of Edmondson students. Mr, Edward Schmidt, not pho- tographed, was a member of the Mathematics Department.
