The Good Ship '47 is hoisting anchor at Edmonds High School to make room for a newer vessel, but the years that the Old Salts have spent in port will be memorable because of their accomplishments. The sails are full and white against a promising sky as the ship leaves Edmonds port. The thoughts of the crew turn back to memories of activities and good times that are never to be forgotten. More classes are hovering over the horizon to join the fleet of years, and as each moves up in rank, we publish this log in memory of those who are retiring, and as a goal for those who are advancing toward their graduating year at the helm -The Editors. f2: -tbuonag mc, S mason btlioq :sassy 4 Qj1jf6 f H QQM E H O7 Nm H1947 W o +479 -YJ All 4.,QJJ-fo-'34ff Mb- LW Publzshed by the X-1 ASSOCIATED STUDENTS EDMONDS HIGH SCHOOL Edmonds Wcrshmqton Mary Mcxrqcx et Young Ed1fOI N Husgell Bruner Busmess Mcmhqer Mu y Lee Scace Assocxcte Edltor Ea hmm I-Imdmcm Iumor Ed1fOI z Q' ju . As an extra service to the crew, they sold hot dogs and pom poms during the football games to earn money to buy curtains and venetian blinds for Health Center. Chosen as warrant officers were Mary Lou Iones, president: Aurelia Cleveland, vice-president: Ioy Rob- inson, secretary. Miss Nancy Keller was adviser of this crew. RIGGING CREW Although the Rigging Crew was mainly concerned with stage work they were kept on the alert with the care and operation of movie equip- ment, the lighting for all dances, and the management of the public ad- dress system for games and adver- tising. The Stage Crew chief was Carl Callahan, and Roy Swanson as direc- tors. Statf assistants were: Art, Betty Lu Parker: Properties, Roberta Mene- fee. Mr. Charles Bowen watched over all operations in this depart- ment. YEOMEN'S STAFF The office workers answered the telephone, delivered messages, list- ed absences, and did many other duties connected with yeomen's work. In this group there were six Old Salts: Winona Warner, Margaret Olds, Dorilee Phelps, Shirley Craft, Mary Lee Scace, and Ioyce Plumb: four Seaman First Class: Ann Fes- senden, Ioan Astell, Adella lane Granger, and Mary Ann Lund: and one Seaman Second Class: Audrey Hahn. SHIP'S LIBRARY The first duty of a librarian on this cruise was service to the entire crew. This included helping ship- mates find hard-to-get material by knowing the location and classifica- tion of books, magazines, and pamphlets. The Seaman-librarians prepared new books for usage by classifying, making book cards, cataloging, and shellacking the new editions. One of the librarian's big- gest jobs was book repairing, and since the ship's library books re- ceived hard wear, the repair room was usually well-stocked. LOOKOUTS The brass of the Hi-Y at the be- ginning of the cruise was Bob Quinge, president: Bill Pitts, vice- president: Paul Burton, secretary- treasurerg Bud Cornish, chaplain. In March, Paul Burton became presi- dent: Bob McClenahan, vice-presi- dent: Bill Pitts, secretary-treasurer: while Bud Cornish continued as chaplain. Mr. Powell was their ad- viser. The Hi-Y had charge of the hand- ling of tickets for school activities. Purple-and-gold rooter caps were sold during the first semester and in early spring, noon movies were sponsored by the Hi-Y. SICKBAY The Health Center is a teaching center for cleanliness, necrtness, and cheerfulness. It is the connecting link between the classroom, teacher and nurse: and between the school and the home. It is equipped as a First Aid Center. There were girls from the crew on duty each period of the day to help I in case the nurse, Mrs. Barrett-Scott I was not there. mei I MAIORETTES tNot Prctured The malorettes consrstrng of Dorothy Stad ler leader Helen Ieppesen Gwenn Hurlbutt Helen Brrkland Shrrley Conley Glorra Brllrngs Vrvran Conley Vrrgrma MCGIHDIS Arlene Parr and Mary Frances Thorson appeared at bas ketball and football games assemblres Doro thy Stadler Helen Ieppesen and Glorra B111 rngs as the Court Carolers announced the acts of the Vodvrl Mrss Margaret Morgan was ID charge of the Malorettes RALLY GIRLS Wrth Mrss Margaret Morgan as the Watch Offrcer the newly organrzed Rally Grrls Adella lane Granger captarn Eleanor Russo Helen Brrkland Gwen Hurlbutt Ioanne Vorers and Dorothy Stadler planned and led the pep ral UPPER RIGHT hes for the football games The grrls organrzed and conducted a serpentrne rally a norse rally a srgn rally and a rally rn whrch an etfrgy of the rrvals was burned PEP CLUBS Under the drrectron of 1ts presrdent and drrll leader Ann Fessenden the EHS Pep Club vrvrdly symbolrzed school Splfll by 1ts appear ances at football and basketball games P T A meet1ngs and 1ts partrcrpatron rn the 1947 Puyallup Sumner Daffodrl Festlval Durrng th1s year s crurse the Pep Club ma tered many new drrlls and formatrons whrch requrre trmrng and co ordrnatron Some t these drrlls rncluded the Fan Four to the Wrnd Drpsy Doodle W h e el s and the Snohomrsh 'Vlarch Mrss Margaret Morgan was the organrza tron s advrser Row l Lett to Rrght Eleanor Russo Adella lane Granger Gw vt Hrrlbutt Row 2 Dorothy Stadler Helen Brrkland Ioanne Vorers LOWER PICTURE Row l Left to Rrght Lrllran Wolf Carol Wrllrams Ioanne Naughton Marrlyn Ambers Ioanne Vorers Terry Proctor Darlene Errkson lean Iulrus Mary Usrtalo Margaret McMahon Adella Iane Granger Ioanne Lerghton Barbara Hard man Eleanor Russo Ann Fessenden Rosalee McCarter Row Z Pat Lane Velma Mrller Ieanne Wrthers Shxrley Stamer Ioy Robrnson Ioyce Vatlar Raelou Granger Bertalee Adams Helen Huswrck T1ll1e Smeade Iune Ltndus Eva Meyerpeter Dolo es Brooks Drusrlla Thompson Dorothy Brshop Ruth Ann Erde Glorra Salvmo Mxss Margaret Morgan Ioanne Gunter 1? 656 ., re V 9606! 9355 as E528 1, ivy r .0 rf' L PPER PICTL RF ,4 xx l l ft to Right Nina Annu Donna Looper Balham Surge Vkilmi Flioinas Ethel Greaves Jaequtlme ai rnrau Elizabeth Goxdon Bettie lu I lm Barbara Larson Eilun Bruner Ruth Ann Eldf. Those exciting words sent our briny mariners off on a voyage through the deep to meet gridiron foes in stormy engagements. First Lieutenant Rowe was at the helm, aided by Assistant Clay at the compass with a tight ship and a green crew below, and with Lady Luck riding at the rudder, we'll come through . . , Up anchor! We were underway and to prove it we took Overlake for a 6-O ride. The undercurrent was to strong though and a tricky Anacortes tide pulled us under 7-6. The smooth engine of the Tiger ship pulled us out but only in time to land us on Arlington reef. Down, again 6-O. With a rip in the hull we shifted cargo and sailed on to the straits of Snohomish where rugged weather knocked us below again 13-0. Repairs were the order of the day and so was Monroe.
