This out- standing producer graduated from Garber High School: received his A,B., B.S,, and M.E. degrees from Phillips University, did graduate work at Oklahoma State University and worked toward his Ph. D. at Phillips. He began teaching in 1939 but this was interrupted by five years service in the United States Air Force. He resumed his teaching career at Garber and later served as superintendent of the Garber system for several years. His family is composed of his wife, lla, two sons, Sam and Gene, and daughter, Mary, who is in EHS. His special interests are golfing, fishing, and photography. He is very interested in civic work both here and at Garber. His first impressions of Edmond were the number of churches and the community's interest in furthering desirable educational and social goals. 4 Mr. Robert Ford, the principal and director of EHS Cinerama, came to us this year from Fairfax, Oklahoma, where he was principal for five years. Mr. Ford attended Bristow High School, received his Bachelor of Arts degree at Northeastern State College, his Master of Arts degree at OSU, and coached previously at Rolla, Kansasg Henry- etta and Cleveland, Oklahoma. When Mr. Ford is not busy directing the EHS cast, he enjoys fish- ing, hunting, and golfing. The stars of Mr. Ford's family include his wife,Pat, and three children, Debra, Martha Jean, and Robert Martin. Even though he has many activities and duties as a new principal, Mr. Ford can al- ways be found smiling, cheerful, and ready to help. 5 I P The front entrance of EHS is inviting to visitors. Our Victory flag is a wel- come sight on our flagpole. The trophy case provides for many interesting displays. Edmond High School with a look of the future, C is for Custodian which he's been for nineteen years. I is for his Interest as for each team he cheers. N is for Nostalgia he feels for Edmond High. E is for Enthusiasm as each year passes by. R is for Responsibility he's shown in all the tasks he's had. A is for Affection from his children to their dad. M is for the Magic word he gives each passerby. A is for All the things we feel for Mr. Fleming, a very great guy. This Cinerama annual is lovingly dedicated to Mr. Ona Fleming - dedi- cated Baptist, raiser of fine fish, five kids, and proud grandfather of ten and great grandfather of one, devoted husband. He's a gardener deluxe, Red Red Rose member, former farmer and fisher- man. This transplanted Texan admits that he is amazed at the growth of Edmond and this year's short skirts. Mr. Fleming is all these things but most important of all he is the friend and father confessor of thousands of EHS graduates. This year Edmond High School salutes you, Mr. Fleming. 7 Ya Oo E J' J' ,EB 0, Q .35 Q Q .1 5 fi Cy .r ' s ' , 8 'N 'S f -Q . 5 if 7,3-1 I Z q Q Q J Qi? SPANISH CLUB JUNIOR CLASSICAL LEAGUE The Spanish Club has been a school organiza- tion since l935, and is growing larger every year. This year there are approximately 30 members. The purpose of this club is to broaden the interest and understanding of the Spanish language. The members find this year more interesting by being able to make recordings of their own Voices with their new recording equipment. Miss Kivlehen, the sponsor, may well be very proud of the in- creased interest the organization has promoted. She has been the sponsor of this club for 25 years. If someday EHS decides to have a Spanish cin-' erama, we will expect a great deal of able as- sistance from this organization. The Junior Classical League is an organization for both old and new students in Latin. The pur- pose of this club, both nationally and locally, is to increase knowledge and interest in Latin. One of the highlights of the year was having dinner and a program at an Italian restaurant. The members receive a pin which is an em- blem of the laurel wreath and the torch of classi- cal civilization. This part of EHS production was directed by Miss Colleen Kivelehen, who has been directing this club since it was established. Romansg B.Bell, D. Shores, N. Wynn. SEATED ON FLOOR: S. Higgins and N. BOW WOW More than 150 EHS girls belong to the Bow Wows. Attending athletic events, pre- senting pep assemblies, buying the Letter- men's jackets from money they make in concession work, and plastering the halls and students with art work to boost school spirit are just a few of this organization's duties. Coronations are planned and carried out by the Bow Wows. At the close of the year the Bow Wows hold a tea, inviting their mothers and next year 's members as guests. At this tea the next year's officers and cheerleaders are an- nounced. Hopes run high and the new core of officers get ready for a new year of ac- tivities. New and different things have been done this year. The surprise Pep Assembly really gave everyone a big boost in spirit. The year's schedule is a busy one for this organization whose responsibility is to stim- ulate school spirit. JR. RED CROSS In every great production there are bound to be a few accidents. The same holds true with the EHS Cinerama. It is the duty of the Jr. Red Cross to take care of these minor emergencies when they arise. The members of the Jr. Red Cross give service to the school and to the community. They have numerous projects which include preparing baskets of food and favors for rest homes, and taking care of the first aid room. Miss Kivlehen, the JRC sponsor, works whole-heartedly with this group as they make EHS a better place to be. LE TTERMEN ,S CL UB One of the most promising acts in the EHS Cinerama is its sports program. Part of the success of this club is due to the enthusiastic support of the Lettermen's Club. The purposes of this club are to further school spirit and citizenship, to provide a better understanding of athletics, and to improve association among different sports groups. The club picked up seventeen new mem- bers this year. This organization is in charge of the coke machines for a money-making project. The busy sponsors are John Schwartz and Ralph Bullard. State Fair. The Future Farmers of America and vocational agriculture first be- came a part of the curriculum of the Edmond High School system in July, 1948. lt was started by the present advisor, Leon Duffle. The constructive activities are for boys interested in a future in some branch of agriculture, and are planned to develop leadership, citizenship, and sportsmanship, along with the ability to carry a job through to completion. Perhaps the success of our chap- ter is best explained by this quo- tation from our F.F.A. Creed. I believe in the Future of Farm ing with a faith born not of words but of deeds. OFFICERS: C. The eighteen members, under the skillful direc- tion of Miss Roberta Miller, managed to capture a living picture of life at EHS. The staff has constantly strived to make this year's paper the best ever. The money received from subscriptions was used for the improvement of the BARK- ER, and toward the acquiring of a new mimeograph machine. This machine would aid greatly their hopes for a prize-winning newspaper. The BARKER, plays an important part in the lives of faculty and students, in that it helps to keep them well informed of the happenings around EHS. Planning the productions at EHS has been a big job for the assembly committee this year. But, as we all agree, they have done a good job of it. Sponsored by Mrs. Durham, the assembly committee has produced many Academy Award winning assemblies, such as Christ- mas, religious emphasis, civil defense, and Thanksgiving assemblies. We are fortunate to have this fine committee back stage in our EHS productions. FRONT ROW: Andrea Hicks, Martha Dubois, Fredrena Moore, Warren Stanila. Background music is always needed for the finishing touches of a smooth per- formance. Also in the background, but not too far, is the fine director of the EHS Cho- rus, Mrs. Lucille Watkins, This year the chorus attended contests and also gave con- certs for the EHS students. BAD The EHS Band continues to be one of the most successful hits of the season. Many behind the scenes rehearsals were required to put this show on the road. Spectacular performances include foot- ball shows, concerts, and contests. Other band activities are pep band, dance band, solos, and ensembles. The band is recognized as being one of the out- standing bands of its size. Band members took time out from their busy schedule to make an all day fun trip in the spring. The trip was financed by their annual magaiine sales. Although the Bulldogs didn t win the conference, they were headed for a tie when the upset-minded Guthrie Bluejays rallied in the second half to knock those chances sky high. Two of the most impressive victories were scored over Blackwell and Perry. From the first days of football camp the boys heard shouts of Let's go, boys, it ain't for the ladies! and that classic phrase, Oh Yeah! Next year the Bulldogs have high hopes of going even farther since there will be many returning lettermen. Bulldog gridders express sideline spirit during a crucial moment. As the year progressed we dropped many props and flubbed our lines, but were slowly becoming ac- quainted with the acceptable customs. Returning the next year, well ac- customed to the style and manner of Senior High, we proceeded to carve a niche for ourselves in EHS. Our Junior Year included the play THE GIRLS IN 509 and the almost endless planning and work on our Junior-Senior banquet and prom, Hawaiian Holiday. But now we're the top stars of the play, and are busy with time-consuming plans for the future. Eagerly, yet, re- luctantly, we leave to fulfill them. We would like to thank our sponsors for the wonderful help and encourage- ment that they have given us. Without them we would not have accomplished as much these past three years. As the drama progressed we added our part by selling Christmas cards. We took part in off-stage activities such as pep rallies, mixers, school plays, sports, our float for Homecoming, and studying for our star role in the future as Juniors and Seniors. We, the 250 extras, have done our best to make this year a memorable one. We now realize the greatness of our tasks in the cinerama of the future.
