Much time and thought are given by it to the educational needs of the community. Regular monthly meetings are held and many special meetings are attended. Perhaps the most important func- tion of the Board of Education is its selection of a super- intendent of schools, who serves as its executive officer. Working with and through the superintendent the Board of Education elects all employees. It adopts courses of study, purchases supplies, acquires school sites. erccts buildings, submits budgetary needs to County Excise- Board and makes rules and regulations for thc manage- ment of the schools. It also acts as a judiciary body in evaluating the results of the educational program carried out by the superintendent and his staff. Officers of the Edmond Board of Education are Fred E. Kirkland, president, and F. E. Harper, vice-president. Other members are: Joe D. Hurt, Clyde Smith and Neal Fisher. Mrs. William B. Tallant, who is secretary to the superintendent, is clerk of the board.
