SPRAGUE: It is our nope and purpose in dedi- a eating this book to you, to give thanks for your thirty-seven years of service and all the help our class has received from you. In the three years you were Guidance Counselor to our class, you and the class became well acquainted. However, one didn't have to have you as Guidance Counselor, to work with you. All anyone had to do was participate in a service for the school, and he would come under your jurisdiction. The Traflic Squad, Service Corps, Students Association, student elections, letter awards, and all fund raising drives have been charged to your care, and you have organized them well. Beside all of these, you have found time to develop bowling to a high degree here at Edison and have taken charge of high school bowling for the entire city. Where you ever get the energy, we'll never know! With this dedication, we salute you! MR. MICHAEL B. LOHMAIER One of the lithographers who started in the days of the old stone litho process, Mr. Lohmaier began his work with the Mc- Millan Lithography Company in 1899. After thirty-one years in the trade, he came to teach at Edison Tech in 1930. His deep interest in the graphic arts field had an important influence on Edison boys over a period of a quarter of a century. Mr. Lohmaier was well-known as one of Rochester's top bowlers, having maintain- ed an average well over 180 for many years. He was active in the supervision of the Interscholastic League and helped de- velop many of our top keglers at Tech. Michael B. Lohmaier will live on in the memory of the many who have felt his in- fluence down through the years. IN MEMUIZIADI MR. JoHN J. HoBLocK For nearly ten years Mr. John J. Hob- lock served as a teacher and head of, the Electric Department of Edison Tech. Dur- ing this time Mr. Hoblock developed an electrical program of extremely high cali- ber with great emphasis on the technical aspects of the subject. Mr. Hoblock was well qualified for the job by his early training. He held an elect- rical engineering degree from Rensselaer and a master's degree from Cornell. For fourteen years prior to coming to Tech he had served as a high school principal in two different school system. Edison Tech's program has been greatly enriched through the efforts of Mr. John J. Hoblock. His friendliness and enthusiasm will long be remembered by all who knew him. iuavfvi QQIOLQ 5..Q.f.L 5. 4 .. ci FLQE was STN' p h'E 7 . LN, xx xx ss K' Xl xx O'1k9Zwl,. BENNETT: After nearly , , forty years as principal of our school, your name p and Edison Tech are almost synonymous. Those who have heard of Edison have more than likely heard of the fine job that you have done. You have guided our school through four moves, from Edgerton Park, to School No. 22, to Bausch and Lomb, and finally to its present location. During these times the name was changed, but its purpose remained, to turn out useful citizens. Not only have you patiently heard and settled problems and grievances that have aris- en in our school, but you have also had the immense job of forming groups of boys of Widely differing backgrounds into a unified student body. We, the class of '55, as we graduate and start our Working careers, salute you who are now leaving, and wish you many pleasant years of retirement. Mn. ROYAL H. Swnm' Is there a boy at Edison that at one time or another hasn't come under your watchful eye? Certainly if anyone is tardy or absent, he gets to know you. Many a boy who has gone out on Co- op, or a part time job after school, or a good job upon graduation, can give you thanks for these opportu- nities. Your patience, under- standing, and friendship have helped many a boy through difficult problems. In addition to the many responsibilities above, you are in charge of the National Honor Society at Edison and all scholastic awards. MR. PAUL K. W. Si'-RINGER This year you were the first to fill the position of Administrative Assistant in our school. You have done a fine job in that capacity as you have done in your other jobs at Edison. In 1929, you first came to Edison as Librariang in 1949 you became Guidance Coun- selorg in 1951 you took the place of the Vice Principal for a- year, and this year you became Administrative As- sistant. Among your out- standing contributions to Ed- ison have been the establish- ment of the Student Court and the supervision of this activity for many years. 30454 MR. HARRY J. SPRAGUE We of the upper class are not the only ones who know you well. With all your visits to the elementary schools in the area, you must seem like a good friend to the ninth grade and a still better friend to the tenth graders who have had a chance to work with you for a year. We realize that you are responsible for helping the ninth and tenth graders in planning their programs of study and for showing them the opportunties here, while also guiding them in becom- ing well adjusted members of the Edison student body and a credit to our school. gacdamce amwiicvz 53' Q J 49366 ffnsevzicfclflnfz MR. RICHARD H. PERCY This is your first year as our Guidance Counselor, but you certainly are not a stran- ger to our class. We remem- ber the help you gave us last year as class advisor in planning our Junior Prom. Since 1938, first as an En- glish teacher, now as Guid- ance Counselor, you have been part of Edison. Even with all the help and guidance you have given our class this year and the time you have spent with the year book, the Junior class was not forgotten by you as you guided them in to position to be the Seniors of next year. h I Q' ,fm-M I y4,. ,F 4' V, azgfrfcfia, :Hi SI:wAIm TUTTLE RAYMOND Booxour FRANCIS MILLQ DI-:MILLE WALLACE EUGENE POLLOCK VIoLA WAIID BLANCHI ASHLEY Fil WILLIAM CASEMENT WALTER KOCH RALPH BOYINK JOHN MCNAB SANTO MARZULIAJ EDWARD BOLGER PAUL DUPRI: Zechcbal GBALD GIEGOBY ELWYN BRYANT CIIAILIB Moon GBE!! Boys in his shop were given their first foun- dations in the fundamentals of electrici- ty. It took nearly two years to find a man who could replace him when he was ready to retire. He taught us shop procedures and safety precautions and made us realize the value of shop instruction. He was a true friend oi' every boy with whom he came in contact. PORTER Edison Tech suffered a real loss in the untimely death of Bill Porter on February 28, 1954. It is seldom that a school is fortunate enough to have among its students such a friendly and jolly fellow. For several years he served the school on the Visual Aid Corps and as its chief operater. As manager of the football team Bill also proved his dependability and good nature. The boys nicknamed him Humphrey after that lovable character in the comics whose high principles and mild man- ner so typified Bill. Our class is proud to have had Bill as one of its members. MR. RICHARD H. PERCY Mr. Percy's first real contact with our class was as our class advisor last year. He is still one of our advisors, but has the additional responsibility of be- ing our Guidance Conselor as well. Mr. Percy's past experience as English teacher was invaluable in helping with the preparation of the written material in this book. Sixteen years of experi- ence teaching here at Edison has given him a thorough understanding of our problems. When ever a problem has arisen we have been able to count on Mr. Percy to guide us to a solution. dlaulddmg 14alaa2wz MR. STANLEY J. BOHRER We were lucky to have Mr. Bohrer's assistance and advice in carrying out the programs of our Junior and Senior years. Not only did he help to formulate the programs, but he c..me into his own when it concerned our printing needs. Tickets and advertisements for our dances as well as the printing in this book were all under his supervision. Twenty years of practical experience in industry and three years in the Army Engineers before he came to Edison six years ago, gave him much of the back- ground which made him so valuable an advisor to our class. WHEELER 55 Middlesex Rd. Russ No. 31 FREDERICK J. WHITE 49 Varian Lane Fred Thomas Edison genders Corps 4g Junior Class res. On September 5, 1951 a class of freshmen, strangers to each other, entered Edison. Four years have flashed by and now that class is graduating. During the four years many friendships were made as the class members became better acquainted. We also learned to ap- preciate the tremendous opportunities offered at Edison and to realize that we were indeed fortunate to be participating in the activities of B such a school. During our first year a new phase of intramural competition was inaugurated with' the Red Cross wrestling tournament. The proceeds E of the tournament went to the Red Cross. But equally important this tournament gave everyone in the school something in common. Over the period of the last four years the tournament has come to mean M more and more in our school life. In September of 1952 Mr. Coe returned as vice principal after a I year's leave, during which he worked on his doctorate at Cornell. The beginning of the second term in our sophomore year saw the Varsity Club organized with Mr. Coe as faculty advisor. The Varsity Club N membership is limited to boys who have earned a major E . The Edison major E is one of the most difficult of school letters to win. The letter is based on activities in three different fieldsg sports, par- ticipation, and scholarship. The purpose of the Varsity Club is to give I recognition to the boys for their services to 'the school and to help promote school activites. Our third year at Edison started off with a bang, when we won the city championship in football. It was the first time in ten years our team had taken a championship. What this did to the school spirit can better be imagined than described. At the second last game, against C Franklin for the East side championship, everyone in our stands stood up and cheered from the time our team came on the field until they scored. It was one of the biggest demonstration of school spirit E ever witnessed by Edisonians. The next game we defeated Charlotte for the city championship. This spirit of winning carried over to our other teams all of which did better than usual that year. Coach John N McNab can well be proud of the part he did in raising school spirit. During that same year our school was painted inside and the Guid- ance Ofiices were enlarged. First the nurse's office was moved into a C former science room. Then the space vacated by the nurse's office was made into two new, larger offices separated by a conference room, E which since has been used by almost all student committees concerned with activities around the school. This year, our fourth and last at Edison, began with changes in the administration. First Mr. Coe accepted a new position out of the state. Mr. Springer former Guidance Counselor, was moved to replace Mr. Coe, becom- ing Administrative Assistant. Mr. Percy, already our class advisor, became Guidance Counselor to the eleventh and twelfth grades. This year Edison's unique blood donor porgram, under the guidance of Mrs. Ward, became more prominent in Edison activi- ties. Everyone who reached the age of eighteen was urged to give blood if he was in good health. All the donors were organized into a club with the club's motto Every do- nor get a donor . Through the activities of the donors and the publicity, Edison gives more blood than any other high school in Rochester. This is something we all can be proud of and strive to continue in the future. Among other activities always improving we find a bowling team that can't seem to be beaten, Tech Follies that are a greater success every year, an Engineering Club that is growing larger, singing groups that sound better each time we hear them, and stu- dent activities that are on the up swing. Since Edison first was founded, many changes and improvements have been made that helped Edison progress with the times. During our four years here, we have witnessed and participated in some of these changes. As we have seen these improvements, we have grown more and more confident that Edison can and will meet all of the challenges of the future. 4 V N , F 255' ' y ,, Y Q.. f 2 fi ' if Q' f,. if Y 5513? f .eq x :fikk ' ' fver- AL' V Qf gk fit 'f -75: gg 'H R rg'-L : 11,1 1 if: E55 uf, ,figj 252 1: QM, 254' ' x 2 Q 'a Q1 V ffffii aff 'MS fi A L was-A 5 , EQ 4 - mg-,L Q Q1 In ' A 'v i-f Q ' 1' 7- 1,5 , Lv EEE . , in aw 1: ' :,,, X, 'SFAVY . - Q QNZ ,Hifi ,Tri er- f ' , 4535? 9 Q, .1 Q gl 4 t , . 2 f fn 5 ,- QE f 1 i .QL - 'E 1 I' ' f ' 4 I X S7 , ' 1 V 1 r + ' If A .-5,7 li gsf Hi P?
