Willlams, Thomas, R.'Mc'Connell, STUDENT ASSOCIATION OFFICERS Fall 1951 4 mm I 'MII Plas R Plxley Cheerleader 1 Hlll ll Sprmg 1952 Ples R Clouchel V Pres W Wu-th Treas F Scally Sec C Sclerexb Cheel leader S Capone A 5, S 512014179 HIGHLIGHTS IN SPORTS 1948 1952 These are the hrgh spots rn sports ln the last four years at Edison Although not many championships were won durrng this time Tech seniors can look back with pride at teams they played on or cheered for Al though we are not tryrng to al1b1 or take anything away from the fine competition we faced we can not overlook the many times a few breaks would have given us an rmportant uctory or even a championship But whether we win or lose Tech has been and we hope forever w1ll b'e champs rn sprrrt and sportsmanship As long as vue hold these titles we will always be on top 1948 Edisons football team downed Franklin 24 7 then tackled heavrlv favored Jeff and played three quarters between the Statesmen s 45 and 10 yd lmes only to have a pass rntercepted and run for a touchdown late in the game After that Jefferson scored two more touchdowns to wln 18 0 although they onlv got three first downs to Edison s 21 Crosscountrv team took the city trtle then lost sectlonals bv only one pomt 1949 Tech track team took 1tS fourth city title rn succession Frank Rertano and John Eblacker set new records rn pole vault and hurdles The 440 yd relay team took sectronals and also set new school record Football team stopped East High s Brlly Rose and company 6 0 lost to Franklin 14 13 Bowling team won the Interscholastrc Championship wrth record of 23 wrns against 9 losses 1950 Edison s basketball team tred for second place 1n the first half of the season Then threw the league into a turmoil by coming from five points be hrnd rn final two minutes to down favored Madrson 51 48 1n the last regular game of the season This forced a five way playoff for second place and right to be the c1ty s second representative for the sectronals Tech lost by the great Ronnie Kilpatrick went on to win the playoff and also the sec tional title The Tech swimming team came within half a foot of wrnnrng the city championship and breaking Marshalls sensational winning streak They won all their other meets except the one against Marshall This meet was lost rn the frnal event a relay which Edison had to wrn It was lost by the slrm margin of about eight inches Ralph Lucht set the city and school record rn the 100 yd backstroke and 150 yd rndrvrdual medley The 150 yd medley relay team set a new school record Bob Kesel copped the school record in the 100 yd freestyle Lucht Kesel and the r lay team also snared sectional honors Edlsons football team tied East for second place rn the Eastern Division then finished rts season with a heartbreaking 18 13 loss after a gallant frght whrch lasted up until the last minute of the playoff The crosscountiy team almost pulled a big upset rn the sectronals After finishing thud rn the city they lost to Brighton in the sectronals 97 99 Stomach cramps suffered by one of Edison s top runners made the difference between a three to frve point win and a two point loss 1951 Art Gabby took the individual city title rn the broad Jump as the Edrson track team frnrshed second Edison football team trounced Franklin 18 6 in the game of the year The soccer team enjoyed one of rts best seasons in years and finished in a tie for second place Paul Perdue took the crty and sectional horseshoe prtching titles 1952 Edrson Bowlmg team took the City Championship and the five man Sectional Title Al Andressl took second ln the Times Union Men s Bowling Classrc Thrs brings us to the time when the yearbook goes to press however we re still looking for more laurels in 1952 with the baseball and track teams strll to report , . . . . , . .
