The excitement of Homecoming began with the selection of 24 Royalty Semi-f inalists on Friday. September 17th. Homecoming week festivities began with an arm wrestling contest. The winners were Tammi Neumann. Mike Swanson. Dirk Arvidson. Jeff Cicsynski. Lori Rassmusscn. Mary Stockingcr ate her way to victory in the spaghetti eating contest. Suspense mounted as the royalty finalists were announced on Tuesday, September 22nd. They were Michelle Munson. Joy Lipa. Diane Rchnclt. Laurie Rog, Darcy Blosbcrg, Ken Nelms. Eric Olsen, Steve Dzicdzic, Dean Wiener, and Louie Ferraro. Students filled the halls with spirit as they dressed for “Hat and Bandanna” day on Tuesday, September 22nd and Punk Day . Thursday, September 24th. Celebration 81 was the theme of the assembly which included many songs, skits, and dances performed by students and alumni. The climax of the evening came when Diane Rchnclt and Steve Dzicdzic were crowned as the 1981 Homecoming Queen and King. Students dressed in the traditional Blue and Gold brightened the otherwise blustery Homecoming Day. The day began with the assembly of floats forjudging. The first place prize went to the Girls’ Swim' team. Lisa Cominctti and Tony Fiega crossed the finish line first as the marathon runners were greeted by a pep band. Excitement surrounded us as we proceeded to the new gym for the pep-fest and the presentation of our King and Queen. Steve Rogers won a cake for wearing the most blue and gold. Gathering on Monroe we watched as Mr. Dennis Kueng, Grand Marshall, led the parade. Our hearts were saddened with the loss to Roosevelt, but the Tommie spirit prevailed as we looked forward to the Homecoming Dance. Celebration ‘81 climaxed as “Times Have Changed played the last dance at 11:00 p.m.. September 25th.
