It is a time of strengthening old friendships and developing new ones. It's a time when one can grow in all aspects of life by belonging and participating. We remember clearly the Homecoming show, the hour-long gossip sessions, and that first blast of winter. Holiday excitement filled the air at the Mistletoe Dance. Winter vacation found us frolicking in the snow. Oh. what a Sno Daze! First seventeen inches fell then on Carnival Day nineteen more caused all of our events to be postponed. Spring, along with its freshness and warmth, brought “Seniori-tis,” Senior Banquet, and Prom. Our memories of 1982 will not only include the fun during class time but also that which begins after the bell rings. I) Having fun at Sadie Hawkins 2) Fixing a flat 3) Punk Rockers at their lockers 4) Howard Griffin singing at Sno Daze 5) Practicing for perfection 6) Theresa Bor-chardt. An appearance by Stan Freese of Disneyland, the Skccts Trio, and Brass Incorporated highlighted the band's spring performance. These outstanding shows will be long remembered. 20 Spring Abroad In the spring of '81 many of us joined other Minneapolis Students in traveling to far away places. We saw breathtaking sights, experienced different cultures, and had lots and lots of fun. You found us sun bathing in Hawaii, eating in France, and dancing in Spain. We have great memories of an experience none shall soon forget. 22 23 Against the Wind 2 On September 26 and 27th students and chaperones ventured to the Crow Wing River fora weekend in nature. After miles of canoeing against a strong wind tents were set up and camp fires built to keep warm. Even the cold didn’t stop the trip to the haunted house. Everyone who went really enjoyed it even those w ho tipped over. 24 R-o-w-d-i-e Rowdie! That is the word that describes this year’s pep assemblies. Excitement surrounded us as we proceeded to the new gym for the pep-fest and the presentation of our King and Queen. Steve Rogers won a cake for wearing the most blue and gold. Gathering on Monroe we watched as Mr. Dennis Kueng, Grand Marshall, led the parade. It offers a good education besides having a deeply involved student body, faculty, and community. This combination makes it a truly outstanding place. This is Mr. Grimstad's description of Edison, and for the past seven years he has made a great contribution to our school. Edison has improved since his arrival. During his time here, he has seen many changes in our building and in our curriculum which have resulted in increased and improved educational opportunities for our students. He believes that a quality program of education requires diverse opportunities in both its classroom and in extra-curricular activities; it also must prepare a person for the future and change. In his associations with the students, staff, and community, he has always placed a high value on fairness. With supportive attitudes like these he has served Edison faithfully. It is with mixed feelings and strong attachments to Northeast that Mr. Grimstad retires. He will remember most the good feelings that people here have for each other and for their school. One of the most outstanding moments in his career was coming to Edison. We. the students of Edison, in appreciation of his caring and service wish to dedicate the 1982 Wizard to Mr. Melvin Grimstad. It is not what he has. or even what he does, which directly expresses the worth of a man. but what he is. (Henri Frederic Anicl) 46 47 Mr. Melvin M. Grimstad Edison’s Best 48 Academic Achievers These students had a Grade Point Average of 3.70 or better at the end of Trimester I. Competition was at a level new to the band members and provided them with incentives to reach beyond themselves in a display of dedication and hard work. The long hot summer began in Buffalo. Minnesota on June 21st with a last place finish and ended w ith the East-Side Parade on July 28th with a Community Spirit Award. In between found the band Marching in Detroit Lakes with a hard earned first place award. Litchfield, the 4th of July in Delano and the Minneapolis Aquatennial Parade. Practice, Practice, Practice! Those were the call words for the summer of 81. Five days a week from Five to Nine they practiced their talents until confidence overcame fatigue and excitement filled them in anticipation. Long shall the many memories linger and always will there be a special place within each of those to came to be a part of the Summer Marching Band of 1981. 139 We Got The Beat! It was a challenge for Co-Captains Carolyn Gates and Diane Demers to develop a practice program. The flaglinc marched with the band in all the parades, which helped them achieve a high level of competency. With the start of school, the flagline became involved with all of the Marching Band activities. One of the most exciting days for them was to be part of “The World's Largest Marching Band. The flaglinc also sponsored “The Mistletoe Dance and “Flower Day. The 81-82 season was filled with many memorable moments, all of which will remain a part of each member of the squad. 4 Row I: Diane Ersbo.Sara Macko.Tcri Burns, Lynn Clem. Carolyn Gales.
