The assembly took place September 28, 1978, at 7:30 p.m. Acts varied from the music of the roaring 20's to today's 1970 rock and folk music. Spirits ran high due to Edison's victory over West, making the dance a great success. The Student Council selected the band Caribou to play for the evening's entertainment. 14 THE WELCOME DANCE 15 HALLOWEEN On the moonlit night of October 27, the witches and werewolves of Edison High creepily crawled into the lunchroom to hear the sounds of Sparta. Sponsored by the Pep Club, the dance was a horrid success. Best costumes were won by 10th grader Brian Person, 11th grader Pam Nelms, and the Fruit of the Loom group Ardie Black, Mary Hanzlik, Wendy Tanner, and Cookie Crepeau for best group costume. 16 8TH GRADE HAYRIDE On November 3, 1978 the 8th grade students attended a hayride at sunny-brook farm. This event, chapperoned by Marge Goss, Mr. Mrs. Lobash, Mr. Mrs. Minnema, Mr. Mrs. Ruud, and Mr. Mrs. Troiden, was planned especially for 8th grade students because they are not able to attend regular school dances. Cookies punch Disco was provided after the hayride. 17 SADIE HAWKINS’ DANCE Once again, as Edison High resembled dogpatch, the gals got a chance to pursue their guys in the annual rush called Sadie Hawkins' Day, held on December 1. The doors opened at 8:00 at which time the guys were off and running. Throughout the night, students exchanged vows and rings, spent minutes in the smooch booth, and called the pig. Music for the night was provided by a country-western band. Alias. Clockwise Hog calling contest. Glenn Chiodo, Jam Abraham, Jim Browning, and Michelle Miller passing time. Afterwards, they danced in the lunchroom to the music of Dynamic Disco. 20 SNO-DAZE ROYALTY On Friday January 26, Darrell Bo-sell and Patty Felegy were crowned King and Queen at the Sno-Daze Assembly Top left: $no-Daze Royalty; Middle left: Larry Kinde and Betty Ruud; Lower left: John Schroeder and Lori McNeal; Center: Queen Patty and King Darrell; Top right: Jim Wentland and Carlene Lipa; Lower right: Dave Farr and Tammy Kramer. 21 SNO-DAZE ASSEMBLY Snowflakes keep falling on my head was the theme for this year's Sno-Daze assembly. Acts varied from lancing to dancing. There were snowflakes falling on the heads of a few of the performers, with a little help from those wild and crazy guys. Jeff Luitjens and Dawn Step-hanson were the M.C.'s Mr. Sieve was in charge of the assembly. 22 Left page: Top-The Glenn Chiodo Wild and Crazy Guy Choir; Middle left—Jeff Luitjens and Dawn Step-hanson; Middle Cheri Anderson and Vince Menard; Middle right—Beverly Schuman; Bottom left-Sandy Jacobson and David Farr; Bottom middle- Brad Anderson and Dave Bishop; Bottom right- Mr. Sieve. The activities consisted of the Slave Block, sponsored by the Senior class, the Dart Throw, sponsored by the student council, and the Cake Walk, sponsored by the Spanish Club. In the meantime, students were dancing to the music provided by Chaos in the lunchroom from 8:00-11:00 P.M. Sno-Daze events were sponsored by the Student Council. 24 25 SWEETHEARTS “79 A full moon, dimly lit dance floor, and sparkling disco music set the stage for the sweetheart dance and Coronation which was held in the student lunchroom on February 9. This annual event is sponsored by the Pom-Toms to raise money for costumes. Because the event followed Sno-Daze by only two weeks, consideration was given to dropping the coronation. The final decision was to hold the coronation and it was evident by the anticipation and excitement preceding the crowning of Edison's Sweethearts, that this tradition was here to stay. Twin City Disco provided an appropriate variety of music which, combined with the fact that the Tommies defeated South's Basketball team and won the Twin City Wrestling title, made this a festive evening. Finally the magic hour arrived, all candidates were given a flower for good luck— the level of tension rose and cameras snapped as Bev Schuman walked casually behind the king candidates and placed the coveted crown on the handsome brow of John Schroeder. The cheers had not yet died down before Alice Corbett lifted the Queen's crown high above the heads of the smiling queen candidates and for a few agonizing seconds the crowd grew silent and watched intently as the crown weaved and bobbed and finally was matched with the sparkling eyes of Lori McNeal. The Edison dancers started daily practices on July 5, from 7 to 10 a.m. Routines and costumes had to be planned quickly as the first performance was Aug. 2 at the Eastside parade and coronation. Fund raisers were planned and vacation schedules changed, finally the school year started. Under the leadership of Lori McNeal the team captured the second place trophy at the Anoka Invitational and turned in many eye catching performances in their deliberate and precise style. Twice a year, members of the student body and staff pack into automobiles and vans and travel to the Crow Wing River near Wadena, Minnesota, for a two-day canoeing and camping experience. In addition to canoeing students receive information on outdoor living and ecological rules, plan their own shelters, cook their own meals and usually manage a game of volleyball before the sun sets. After singing a few camp songs and telling a few “spooky” stories around the campfire, students and teachers take their tired bodies to designated shelters fairly early, because canoes must be in the water again early Sunday morning. The long ride home is rather quiet as most students catch a few hours sleep and thoughts turn to Monday when bells will again signal the reality of classes. Arrangements and planning are under the direction of Mr. Luck and Mr. Marcouiller. 58 FACES 60 61 ALTERNATIVE EDUCATION The Work Experience Program is designed to give students an opportunity to participate in Edison's academic program in the morning and then work in the afternoon. The program is open to all grades. POCKET SCHOOL Pocket School was started as an alternate program in 1972 for those students who need tutoring on the basics, such as reading, mathematics, social studies, and English. The program's activities are field trips to vocational schools and places of culture. Staff for this program is Rosie Hagen, Mr. Bauman, Mrs. Risk, and in addition, Mrs. Sally Roberts. 66 b7 H.E.N The Henry, Edison, North program is in its third year. The reason for this program is to give students a wider choice of classes, to encourage intergration and to give students an opportunity to meet new people. This program has increased a great deal since last year. There were 435 students involved 1st tri, and 690, 2nd tri. He devoted his entire life towards helping the minority people. My philosophy of life is not to see what I can get out of life but to see what I can contribute to life. Also I believe you should always give everything an honest attempt and never feel a goal is beyond reach. 116 Mary Sue Sherin Dawn Stephanson I will be taking Mechanical Engineering at the U of M next year. I enjoy playing tennis, shopping, and watching football games. My goal in life is to try to be as kind and considerate to others as I possibly can be, because life wouldn't be meaningful if you couldn't get along with anyone. I admire Hubert Humphrey because he was so concerned about other people. During his lifetime, he helped many people who were less fortunate than himself. My philosophy of life is to always try to do the best you can do, and be kind and considerate of others at the same time. Caren St. George My plans are to go to college and major in Business Administration. My favorite pastime is both cheering for and participating in sports. My goal in life is to become successful in whatever I do. My philosophy of life is to live each day to its fullest and keep an everlasting smile. I plan on attending either Gustavus Adolphus or St. Olaf College majoring in Psychology. I have enjoyed many things here at Edison but my time spent with Roger Harmon and the swim team hold a great many memories. My goal in life is to grow with every possible opportunity. I admire the late Hubert Humphrey for his drive, determination, compassion and love of life. My philosophy of life is When life gives you lemons, make lemonade. Paul Thompson I plan to attend the Institute of Technology at the U of M, majoring in Mechanical or Civil Engineering. I like reading, photography, and drawing or working on anything from paper airplanes to actual cars. I feel being honest with myself and maximizing all of my potentials will enable me to reach even the highest goals. Annette Thompson In the fall I will be attending Mankato State Univ. to major in English and minor in art. My favorite pastime is participating in sports either by watching or playing. My philosophy of life is to live and learn. Sherry Weinstock 1 plan to attend St Mary's Junior College to study occupational therapy My favorite pastime is going out with my friends and having a good time. My goal in life is to be successful in whatever I choose to do. My philosophy of life is to always look at the bright side of things and never allow things to get you down. 117 Bradley Anderson Scott Bagley Keith Aspinwell Mark Beeksma Troy Bakker CLASS OF “79” (IN MEMORY) Sue Anway Bill Bender 118 ■ r' Carrie Brasuhn Loreli Buffington Dave Bishop Debbie Bergman Terry Bratsch Lori Buerke Bob Buffalo Jeanine Burbank Cindi Caise Glen Brozak Carolyn Calander Barbara Bredsten Jerome Brobjorg Michael Bryan Darrell Bosell Ann Bilek Simone Boutin 119 Colleen Carlson Mark Callender Tom Charbonneau Dave Camarillo Julie Campbell Dan Carr Ranelle Camplin Alice Corbett Domenico Cotroneo Lenette Crotty Scott Cyrus Tony Chester Laura Cominetti Ray Clark Jon Chelstrom Danette Collins m w Richard Clem RoxAnn Cooper 120 Janice Decheine Linda Dowson Connie Dowdle Julie Egeland April A. To savor a special moment Or to carve a slipping second on our minds But time waits not for us We must hurry to keep pace with it I'm glad we have a special gift, though A gift to let us remember a happy moment Or even recall a fallen tear So we will remember our times this year And Edison, we will remember you. 176
