What are the characteristics of an outstanding educator? Surely, such attributes as patience, perseverance, diligence, fairness, sensitivity, strength, and courage would be mentioned when describing one whose contributions to others are significantly above the mean. Upon hearing such terms, those of us who know Mrs. Anne Kellner would associate her name at once. Having received her Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees at the University of Minnesota, Mrs. Kellner went on to study twice in France: once at the Sorbonne on a scholarship from the American Association of University Women, and later as a Fulbright scholar. During her 24 years at Edison she has served as chairman of the professional committee of the faculty, and is currently working on the state committee for foreign language teaching. In addition to French, Mrs. Kellner has studied Latin, and has also spent a summer in Guatemala studying Spanish. Privileged indeed have been those fortunates who have shared in learning experiences with this warm, cultured, lady. She can be firm without being unkind . . . she motivates and challenges young people without their feeling that they have been driven. She is always searching for better ways to help young people to develop, not only as students, but as personalities. Mrs. Kellner possesses these unusual qualities, and it is with great pride that we dedicate this, the 1961 Wizard, to her.
