Here we see Ianice Vanderniytle rv:- ceiving her diploma from our print cipal, Mr. Samuelson, as Bob Reiners walks away with his in hand. 7070 10 lt is a tradition at lidison for the seniors to have a spring lwanquet. Ours was held on Iune fourth at the Rad- isson llotel. The taliles were set in honor of the cor- onatiou of Queen lilizalieth, and the entire program followed this theme. The speakers and the entertain- tnent during the evening made our last formal getkto- gether otte to rememlier. The time was drawing closer to our final departure as we so realized on Iune seventh. This was the day of liaccalaureate. where all of us donned our caps and gowns and assemliled in the auditorium to receive spiritual guidance. The Reverend S. Hiort- luud from Central Lutheran Church. inspired us with his otttstanding sermon. Un the Wednesday hefore graduation all cares were en! fbaq tossed aside. as the seniors joined in the fun at the class picnic. The setting for the picnic was at nearby Colum- lwia Park. The joys of the previous days came to a grand finale on the evening of Iune eleventh. Commencement was at hand. The strains of the War March of the Priests ae- compztnied us as we walked down the aisle. With a feeling of accomplishment. we proudly received our diplomas. With mingled emotions of ioy and sorrow, we realized that our school days here at Edison were now at a close. No longer would we he greeting friendly faces in the familiar halls and classrooms. Our senior class was organizecl in the fall with the election of four class officers. Miss Cowan, with the help of our senior advisers. contriliuteel her time and effort in the planning of our senior agenda. The year's .activities liegan with our first class party, Harvest Holi- tlayf' Un tht- twenty-second of October, pumpkins antl cornslalks were usetl as tlecoratizxns in our gym, as we tlancetl to the music of Iimmy Polsak. Our secontl class party, f'Cupitl's Capers. was held on liclvruary seventh in the North Sitle l,egion Hall. This time our theme was carrietl out with colorful lacy hearts, streamers, anfl arrows. The couples tlanceal to the music of liruce Schroetler and his orchestra. As the year progressed. we heltl a tea in honor of our mothers. An afternoon of entertainment antl refresh ments was enioyetl liy all. Our Spring Prom was heltl at the Calhoun Beach Cfuh on May twenty-thirtl. The swirl of the flowing pastel formals, comhinetl with the soft music of Dick Finch and his orchestra. lent an at inosphere of spring gaiety to the lovely evening. F VALEDICTORIAN Iudith Christensen Honor students at Edison are chosen on the basis of their scholastic records. With A's counting three points, B's two, and C's one, a student must earn an average of 2.3 in order to be placed on the All-City Honor Roll. The pupil who has the highest average in the class is named valedictorian. This year our valedictorian, Iudith Christensen, has made a perfect score in her entire senior high career, and the class of '53 is proud to extend to her its congratulations and best wishes. ln addition to her scholastic accomplish- ments, Iudith was active in many of the organizations in school, all of which are listed with her name and picture in the regular senior panels. Because our educational system is vitally concerned with the development of character as well as the acquiring of knowledge, the current Edison report card evaluates students on personal qualitiesg such as, dependability, cooperation, and punctuality. Consideration is also given to a studentis sincerity and appli- cation in his studies. On the report card, this item is called working up to ability. 'Mae Wan Jaghwl' School ,Hmm SALUTATORIAN Lynnea Olsen The pupil with the second highest average in the class is named salutatorian. This year our salutatorian, Lynnea Olsen, made an al- most perfect score in her entire senior high school career. To her the class of '53 like- wise extends its congratulations and best wishes. Lynnea also participated in a great number of school activities, and these are listed with her name and picture in the senior section. Because of their positions, both girls gave speeches at the commencement exercises in the school auditorium on Iune ll. In addition to the valedictorian and saluta- torian, the class of l953 has thirty-eight mem- bers who have earned places on the All-City Honor Roll. On file in the office, there is a cumulative record card for every Edison student. Here are recorded facts regarding his family, his special interests, and his aptitudes. Also, a rec- ord of his scholastic marks is kept here, to- gether with scores in subject matter and intel- ligence tests.
