qi, 1 - . .V U- 1 --W,---f--a l, MR. Cook Today we celebrate our fourth birth- day. Four years ago we published the competition with other schools. .Now we have three championships. Four years ago we published th.e Nor'easter. Now we are completing a splendid copy of the Wizard. Four years ago we were a child. To- day we are approaching manhood and womanhood. We have grown in char- acter, we have increased in numbers, we have matured in scholarship, we have developed a personality, and above all we are coming to have a vision of the possibilities of the future. I greet you on this our birthday, hop- ing for a greater future, built upon the firm progress of the past, wishing that every pupil who comes to Edison may catch some of the inspiration of that Name-a Name that means Imagina- tion, Faithful Work and Service to all mankind. ,. lf ,E .1- if 3, ., :Ii sl f - -'if a , ' flbtzsf 9 ,..-.-. .. -,...,. A, . .,. ---:4-V...--f -- - i Miss COLE Your book tells how a few brave peo- ple made a littlelsettlement among the Indians, how this village grew into a large and beautiful city-the home of many people. In just a few years-how few you do not realize-this city will be in your hands, students of Edison. You will govern it, run its business, and make its homes. My wish is that you may do your part well. May your rule be one of justice and honesty. May your work be for the service of mankind, lsomething that you enjoy, and above all may your homes be of the best, homes where love dwells and where truth, industry, and piety are taught. ' H The task which you have before you calls for each one to be his best. In this way and in this way only may we have have a truly beautiful neigh- borhood. , -- --vw-.ww ,u.4,f.,fQ--- f 4'---Awf -Je.. 1 f.qs-:rg--.1---we Seventeen

I N a morning in September the summer quiet of a large building on Monroe and Twenty-second was dispelled by the arrival of eighty-three faculty mem- bers. Vacation's knell had sounded. Some had been charmed and bewildered in Europeg some had studied long assignments, written papers, taken testsg some in need of Hvile trash had been at Work every dayg some felt the sportsman's thrill given by the fish-jerked lineg some behind the wheel had felt the glory of motion as they drove toward far horizonsg some not regretting yesterday and taking no thought for the morrow had done just nothing. A number were missingg some had been transferred to other schoolsg some had registered for university work in the East and the Westg one on Sabbatical leave had remained with her Ford in Europe. A few stranger-eyes measured the regulars, and the regulars appraised the new arrivals. Greetings, questions, introductionsg then all realized that in a few days no one would know except for the coats of tan and wrinkles less-pronounced that any one had been away. Cook geniality, Cole regulation, and faculty enthusiasm would soon be spinning the Edison educational wheels. x 2 1 :cafwvfg 5-wqwmmsuu-wuvfiw wi-.mf A fl? vnu 1 ,- 2.5. t, 15, ,, , 1' .fi I 'V- My .,. 12 .M lx? fair as ill ' ea Elm 5 1' 1 15, V iw ls. -m r ,N .rx fi 5 fr .. ,4.f,,.i. . , - .. : ': - Lg 5?
