Edison Varsity Falls to 3-16 Halt Edison High's varsity basketball squad, under the direction of Coach Micheal Schifer, ended the season in seventh place in the Firelands Conference. Edison had an overall record of 3-16. In the Chargers' first win they beat the St. Paul Flyers in their first encounter of the season by a close score. In that squeaker Ron Young tallied 19 points to pace the way. The next win came against St. Paul's for the second time in the 1972-73 season. John Cooke led the way with 17 points. In the season final the Chargers won in a come- from-behind victory over the Black River Pirates. . John Cooke, senior, led the team in scoring with 217 points for an average of 12.0, and Dan Lake, junior was second with 161 points and an average of 8.5. The big Blue and Orange hit the boards for 283 offensive rebounds and 463 defensive rebounds for a total of 746 karooms. At the charity stripe the Chargers made 224 of 409 free throws for 59 percent. Ron Young, junior, led the team in steals with 82. John Cooke had the highest percentage of field goals. He attempted 193 and canned 83 of them for 42 percent. John Cooke was selected to the second team all- conference with Ron Young getting honorable mention. John Cooke was voted most valuable player of 1972-73 season.

They lost their first game to Norwalk and then went on to win four conference games in a row against Monroeville, South Central, Western Reserve and St. Paul. The Chargers then lost seven in a row, three which were non-conference games. The Reserve cagers then bounced back to win three games against South Central, Western Reserve, and St. Paul. Near the end of the season the Reserves lost to Mapleton, and then came back to defeat New Lon- don. ln the season finale the Chargers lost a squeaker to Black River. Rich Mills, junior, led the team in scoring with 165 points for an average of 9.2 points a game. The Reserves averaged 40.0 points on offense and gave up 39.0 points on defense.
