U niversal Gym Purchased With much help from the Boosters, Varsity Club was able to purchase the universal gym. However, since this money came from the Boosters, the club is committed to repay them. For the first time the Edison Varsity Club sponsored a basketball game between the Harlem Diplomats and the Faculty All-Stars. They tried to initiate other programs to raise money, but could not get approval. Officers elected were Dave Gormley, president: Dave Dunham, vice- president: Jeff Einerson, treasurer, Steve Shaw, secretary: and Ralph O'Hara, publicity chairman. TOP: Dave Gormley and Ralph O'Hara take in the money for the Diplomats basketball game. CENTER: The All-Stars lose the tip off of what turned out to be an exciting and profitable game. The Cheerleaders and Pep Club worked hand in hand throughout the year to get support from the student body. ln the summer the cheerleaders attended a national camp at Robert Morris College and were awarded the title of most spirited squad there. Varsity cheerleader Shelley Obermiller received her four year award at the banquet April 13. The Pep Club had new uniforms this year and sup- ported the team both at home and away. ln order to be a cheerleader a girl must be in Pep Club. Bev Weilnau was president this year and was helped by adviser, lVlrs. Martha Vartorella.

S,s, M, v-L, -X., -4 ' 23: For the interested girls at Edison High, the school provides basketball and volleyball, through an organization called GAA, which stands for Girls' Athletic Association. GAA is no different than playing basketball or volleyball on any other team, for both these sports are played in GAA organized groups. The basketball and volleyball teams travel to other schools and play as a group with only qualified girls. Mrs. Martha Vartorella is the head coach and adviser of the group. Several awards were presented on Awards Day to the out- standing members of GAA. Ann Heckelman, junior, and Linda Lake, juniorg received their GAA letters for accumu- lating 6,000 points each. These points are accumulated throughout one's entire high school career in GAA to receive an award. Jo received her GAA numerals. Many of the fresh- man and sophomore members of GAA received their first and second year awards. LEFT: Scrimmage in the gym.
