Winter was filled with the sound of music as Edi- son's Varsity Choir presented one solo winter con- cert, and a combined Christmas concert with the Edison Varsity Band. The combined Christmas concert was presented on December 19 and was conducted by Mr. Nick Geor- giafandis and student teacher, Mr. John Murphy. Mr. Murphey directed Glory to God in the Highest by Pergolesi for the Choir, and Casa Grande by Gass for the Band. Rita Young was featured in the soprano solo in O Holy Night , while the Edison Choral Ensemble performed The Christmas Song . The con- cert was dramatically climaxed in the combined effort of the Band and Chorus performing Hallelujah Chorus. The next concert presented by the choir was the Annual Winter Concert held on Sunday, March 11. This concert was highlighted with various senior stu- dent conductors and soloists. Two ensembles partici- pating in District ll Solo and Ensemble contest were also featured. Barb Rooker conducted Ave Maria while Kathy Likes sang I Heard You Singing. ln the second half of the concert Paul Phillips conducted No Man ls An lsIand. The Edison Chamber Ensemble performed Evening Serenade and Girls Ensemble, featuring soprano soloist Sheree Bruns, sang Ride The Chariot. The concert ended with the spiritual There Will Be Peace In The Valley. ROW TWO: Bob Strader, Scar- lett Marshall, Jim Weilnau, Clarence Stanley, Bonnie Garwood, Charles Hippler, Mike Weitzel, and Mark Kropf. Jim Garwood received the State Farmer award at the State FFA Convention held in Columbus April 27-28. Only two percent of all FFA mem- bers are chosen for this award. Jim is the second student from Edison to receive this degree. Other outstanding members received awards at the annual I j ,F banquet held March 27. Mike Wetzel received Star Green- M , - if hand for the best work as a i sf first year student. Steve Crecelius was the recipient of both Star Chapter Farmer and Star Horticulture Awards, and Frank Hill won Star Swine award. Bonnie Garwood won second in the district in the creed contest, in extemporanious speaking, Sue Garwood won second in the county. In the annual parliamentary procedure contest held at EHOVE November 21, Edison's chapter placed fourth in the county. Gene Charville, Mark Suhanic, and Frank Hill, members of the soil judging team, placed second in the county October 5, and went on to place third in the district October 17, 18. Livestock judges Steve Crecelius, Mark Sisson, and Jim Weilnau won seventh in district competition at the Huron Coun- ty Fairgrounds March 24. Bonnie Garwood, Kim Suhanic, and Mike Wetzel placed ninth in district dairy judging April 5. Ed Knallay and John Raymond served as delegates to the State Convention and Bev Weilnau sang in the State FFA Chorus. One 'of the highlights of the year's activities was the chapter trip to Chicago the week of November 26. There they attended the: Chicago International Livestock Show and Rodeo. In addi- tion, they visited the Museum of Science and lndustry. William Lowe, Sectional Vice-President from North Union High School in Richwood, Ohio, visited the FFA facilities and reviewed the programs in November as part of his duties. He currently visits schools to study their programs to give and re- ceive information.
