After opening the season with a win and a loss, the Eagles snapped a 5-year losing streak against arch rival River Fores t, 16-10. That victory coupled with a close 13-7 win at North Newton gave the team a 2 3 conference record good for 4th place. Ill an inconsistent season ” We were a very young team with only one player — Mercy Soto — that had varsity experience last year. It was a very inconsistent season. The girls played well against the tougher schools like Chesterton and Andrean, but played poorly against weaker schools. Hopefully all the players gained valu- able playing experience for next year. The girls will have to play in the summer and work twice as hard next year if they want to compete with the teams we play against. We have a tough schedule which is good if we plan on winning a sectional title. I feel this is something that can be accomplished but we have to play as a team and everybody has to realize they have a role on the team whether they are a starter or a substitute. -Coach Llewelynn 1. Our three sophomores — Guess, Anderson, Yarrington — all had winning seasons. Greer had a fine three- year career at number 1 singles. Our J.V. team had a 6-5 season against some strong competition. The girls played their best tennis of the year in the Highland Sectional. They upset Highland 3-2 in the semi-final round and then lost a very close 3-2 match to state-ranked Merrillville. First of all, the players grew together as a team. We had a young team that matured.
