2)J; cation In order to show our appreciation for all you have done for us this year as teacher, senior sponsor, dean of girls, Pep Club sponsor, Sunshine sponsor, and Eagle Feathers critic, we, the staff, dedicate this, our 1958 Edisonian. to you. We shall always remember your excellent example of leader- ship and your wonderful personality. 2 The 1958 Edisonian m emoriam We shall always remember one of our classmates, LARRY Blair, whose short life ended on January 5, 1957. Larry was a member of the football squad. Pep Club, and E-Men’s Club as well as a friend to every one who knew him. The 1958 Edisonian 3 Editor — Barbara Davis: associate editors — Ethel Stavrakis and Beverly Moore. sd round dddison in 1957-1958” There were many events worth remembering this school year. Some of them were big and some were small. There were our athletic teams, our clubs, our faculty, our classes, and our classmates. Through the theme, Around Edison in 1957-1958, we hope to aid you in preserving these memories for many, many years to come. Within these pages we are attempting to bring you a short story of Edison Senior High School. This is a true story which we hope you will enjoy. Most of the events were recorded with pictures rather than words, as we feel that one picture is worth a thousand words. Editor 4 r he 1958 Edisontan The 1958 Edisonian 5 VIRGIL I. President. eniors Lingering memories of bygone days remain in the hearts and minds of the members of the Class of ' 58, as they have many happy memories of their years at Edison. However, they are proud of the jobs they have completed as seniors — being officers in the many organizations and members of all the clubs to which they belonged, publishing the school paper and yearbook, participating in athletics, cheerleading, the Powder Puff game, and the senior play as well as enjoying themselves a great deal at the dances they sponsored and the honor banquet, and acquiring the much needed knowledge for future use. There was, also, the excitement of final exams, report cards. Baccalaureate, and finally Graduation. Their days at Edison were ended, but they have a whole new world to which to look forward and conquer. The ID 5 3 Edisonian 1 Jean Boutwell Sunshine Society. Homemakers. Pep Club. September 3, since the building was not ready for use until after Thanksgiving the preceding year. Although it took them a while to get adjusted, after coming from the junior high school, to the new conditions, faculty, and upper classmen of juniors and seniors, they had a very enjoyable year. Throughout the year they attended classes daily, elected class officers, had the privilege of becoming members of various clubs, participated in fall, winter, and spring sprots, also, vocal and instrumental programs as well as dances, and enjoyed spon- soring their own class dance. 32 The 1958 Edisonir - omores Adams. This organization is composed of representatives of each class and club: its purpose is to recommend improvements in the functions of the school to the administration. These functions include dances, athletic events, fund-raising activities, and im- provements in the halls, classrooms, lockers, and decorations of the school. 1 he most important social event sponsored by the Council was the annual Homecom- ing Dance after the Edison-Calumet Township football game on October 4. Once again, the Christmas decorations in the halls were enjoyed by the students and faculty. The last project was the election of next year’s president. Sing, Sing might well have been the motto of the members of the choir, as they prac- ticed daily every morning before the first period class. Their first performance was the annual Christmas Concert, which was given by the members of the choir and band. Also the choir presented a musical program in the spring. Soloists and ensembles participated in the dis- trict solo and ensemble contest, and the choir took a second-place rating in the vocal division of the district contest. The members of the staff have tried their utmost to give a mimeographed paper with up-to-date news every two weeks to the student body throughout the school year. The third period was school paper hour for collecting and writing news articles, typing the news, cutting stencils, mimeo- graphing. and assembling the paper, although part of the work was done at the noon hour and other times of the day. Under the coaching of Steve Georgakis the Eagles had an average record for the season, if one considers their misfortune of having a number of players out of games with injuries. The season started out victorious for the Eagles when they won over Merrillville’s Pirates 13-7. The next three games were losses, but the Eagles once again became triumphant when they stomped out Calumet Township 1 3-0. The rest of the season was a record of defeats for the Eagles: fhus, they ended this season in a tie with Dyer for last place in the Calumet Conference. Ediso n was honored by having Ivan Cole and Francis Chester placed on the 1957 Calumet Conference All Star Football Team. Joseph Dreyovich was placed on the second string of the Calumet Conference All Stars and ten players were chosen for Honorable Mention.
