Wlithin a 9-year period the enrollment has increased to 2200 students. The college now offers a Liberal Arts and a Graduate Studies program in addition to a greatlx expanded 'Teacher Education eurriculm. The administration is currently in the process of fulhlling plans for an athletic field in the northeast area of the campus, for twin dormito ries to house 600 Coeds, for a new science building with complete facilities for students and a garage for the campus trucks and equipment All of these, in addition to plans for other buildings, are included in the overall campus expansion plan. The faculty consisting of 122 members is the backbone of the college They serve as immediate advisors to the individual students in planninc their future courses and, in efTeet, tbeir future careers. With patience and understanding these dedicated educators devote their talents to the development of responsible citizens who will be the leaders of society tomorrow. 15 Dr. Miller demonstrates a machine in the Language Laboratory for Mr. George Hamilton, former member of the State 'Council of Education, and Dr. Charles H. Boehm, Superintendent of Public Instruction in Harrisburg. 16 A PRA CTICAL IDEALISYQ Dr, Tliomas R. hfiller. President of Edinboro, yisualiyes the bringing to fruition a cherished dream - - a community of scholarship. This dream of many facts encompasses the development of mature inclivicluals qualified to portray constnic- tive roles in the world community as thoughtful. artieulate persons of judgment and wide education. His goals are not concerned only with brilliance in intellectual attainments, both academic and scientific, but also with personal values that pre- pare students to cope with the vicissitudes of life, that produce sound social attitudes, emotional maturity and continued growth in cultural refine- ment. Dr. Millerls nine years of planning and guidance reflect a 285-acre campus replete with modern buildings housing students, providing up-to-date classrooms and greatly enlarged literary and scien- tific facilities. Dr. Miller's master plan includes assiduous devotion to curriculum enrichment and even-better prepared faculty members. Thus the President is interested in bringing to Edinboro the physical and educational means which produce a climate of culture, a community of scholarship in which students have the maxi- mum opportunity to make hopes realities, enrich their lives, form wholesome prospectives and de- velop their characters and open new worlds. Three boys elimbed into an automobile as they had done . . . many times before. The road they were to travel was not a new one. Thi.s road they had traveled . . . many times before. They laughed and joked, the way buddies generally do. They were true buddies - much more than friends. They had shared these good times together . . . many times before. Then suddenly, something haplliened. What.9 We shall never really know. And still they were together as they had been . . . many times before. And now there is a memory of days so long ago, of times that will be remembered of the . . . many times before. By jacque Laughner John Dingfelder, january 1964 Phi Sigma Pi, E Club, Varsity Football.
