For those who had missed some of the big movies of the day, the Edina Orchestra’s Cabaret Concert was sure to fill them in. This year the orchestra centered their performance around an overall theme of “Edina Goes Hollywood.” Joy Danielson, concert mistress, kicked off the show by bringing the group in tune with their music. During the opening half of the concert, the musicians showed their more serious side. This part of the performance contained various classical pieces. However, after a short intermission, the orchestra livened up with songs and medleys from such latest hit movies as Star Wars, Ordinary People and The Muppet Movie. There were skits and dances, too, including those from the Roaring Twenties.” Capping off the show was a collection of traditional Christmas melodies. The odds were stacked up against the success of the concert this year. Those band members that were to accompany the strings were chosen only weeks before the first performance. On top of that, the orchestra had just finished a rigorous schedule involving the fall musical. Due to the excellent direction of Mr. Me-licar, Katy Choelis (student director) and the dedication of the orchestra members, however, the 1981 Cabaret Concert overcame the odds and proved to be a tremendous success. trung Out r- L 26 CABARET
