L LASS PROPHELY On a moonllt May n1ght 1n the year 1981 a group of fam1I1ar faces were seen gather mg at the old Edgewood school bu1ld1ng These faces belonged to the Class of l95b Back 1n 56 the class had dec1ded that IH 25 years they would get together for a second Ch1cago tr1p They were now fulf1ll1ng th1s agreement Among the f1rst to arr1ve at tht In Il 5 doorswas our own early b1rd back 1n h1gh school years Larry Madlom and I'11SW1f9 the former Pat Farrel of Volga It seemed that Larry had changed SIHCC he left school or maybe lt s h1s Job Anyway Larry 1S always on tlme for work H1s Job 15 t1mekeeper of the B1g Ben Clock 1n London England The next couple to appear 1n the doorway was so unfarn1l1ar that I was sure they had come to the wrong place But as they drew nearer I not1ced the g1rl s red ha1r and knew 1t was Leah Morley Pruess As Leah was always cons1dered a beauty back ln h1gh school days I was shocked at her fuzzy halr d1Sh pan hands and run over shoes It seems that Russell lost h1s Job and D12 1n order to keep the1r new car went to work as a dlsh washer 1n the Strand Cafe D12 told us that the Strand Cafe was now owned by Gary Hartbeck She Sald that Gary had remodeled lt and bu1lt a garage out back where k1dS could brmg the1r cars 1n and have the shlft changed from the r1ght to left s1de It seems that Gary found th1s very convement 1n h1s h1gh schooldays so he dec1ded to start a new fad Gary never marrled no one knew why but many thought It was because h1s best frlend Daryl Hochhaus beat h1s tlme wlth Beverly Hllsenbeck of Greeley It appeared that Daryl made more tlme w1th Bev whlle Gary was on vacatlon than Gary d1d 1n a year Daryl 15 now teachmg Enghsh 1n the Greeley school Oh well Daryl always was lnterested 1n Engllsh wh1le 1n h1gh school Most of the 56 sen1ors have arr1ved but the bus IS scheduled to leave at mldnlght so we st1ll have a half hour to v1s1t An old gentleman standmg next to Reynold Tegeler seemed fam1l1ar but w1th h1s could be none other than our own beloved E H S pr1nc1pal Mr G M Randall I felt sorry for Mr Randall now for I recalled on our f1rst Chlcago tr1p how rap1dly he walked and the trouble we senlors had 1n trymg to keep up Wlth h1m He never could keep up that pace now so I suppose we w1ll have to take more busses and taxlcabs th1s tr1p I stopped to talk to Reynold and found that he had won the Mr Amer1ca contest 1n 1970 and was now modell1ng men s sw1m su1ts ln Key West Flor1da I guess It was h1s long graceful legs that helped h1m to w1n Reynold s w1fe the former Esther Uhlenkamp our Da1ry Pr1ncess back l1'1 h1gh school days IS now owner of a dalry farm 1n Iowa No one knew for sure what came between her and Terry WIISOH but some sa1d Terry d1dn t llke cows The next person I saw was Gordon Anderegg Gord1e told me that he was domg very well 1n the manufacturmg bus1ness H1s product 1S unt1ppable cha1rs He couldn t forget the day 111 h1S senlor year when he and h1s cha1r took a sp1ll on the floor so he dec1ded to prevent any such acc1dents 1n the future Now that he IS r1ch Gordon says he 1ntends to beat B111 B1ssell s tune w1th Nancy Lewxs I m sure Nancy 1sn t 1nterested 1n the money though J1m Baker now town marshal Ln Edgewood told me that he llked h1s Job at all t1mes except for Halloween n1ght He doesn tl1ke to clean up the corn fodder and rubb1sh after wards I can remember though on a certam Halloween n1ght when HE hauled such 1tems 1nto town J1m mformed us that Cla1r Fannon wouldn t be able to make the tr1p Wlth us th1s year Clalr 1S a speclal k1nd of undertaker he operates a mortuary for females only .hm sa1d Cla1r was ready to go along when he recelved a call and s1nce Patr1ck always had a soft heart he couldn't refuse I was surpr1sed to learn that one of my classmates was now super1ntendent of E H S Of course I rushed over to congratulate h1m and to ask h1m how he l1ked h1s pos1t1on Harvey Straus told me that h1s secret amb1t1on had always been to have an off1ce of h1s own and s1nce Mr Chr1stensen always sent h1m down for somethmg he had forgotten Harvey took a fancy to that off1ce and made lt h1s goal 4 J ' ' x ' - . , . .
