Under the direction of the Edgev ood staff, the students have grown as each year progresses. From the freshman year to the senior year, minds and personalities have broadened and matured. Trojans have learned to cope with the pressures and problems of adolescence, to become responsi- ble citizens. They have learned through mistakes and from each other. But not all achievements have been in the past. LOOK AT US NOW - Achievers 99 M H lu© WM v Bernard Buchanan Barbara Pill T3 ernard Buchanan typifies the four qualities which 3 the Emerald Key represents. Leadership — Ber- nard has been a member and leader within the German Club, the Aolian Club, and California Scholastic Federa- tion. He has been a class officer and has held office in the Associated Student Body. He was chairman of the 25th Birthday Bash. Service — He was a performing member of the Trojanaires his junior and senior years, and participated in three sports: track, tennis, and soccer, where he was junior varsity captain and varsity co-captain. Scholarship — Bernard was a member of the California Scholarship Federation. He was named to the Scholarship Honor Roll his freshman year, and the Prin- cipal ' s Honor Roll his sophomore, junior, and senior year. Citizenship — Bernard has displayed a positive at- titude and outstanding citizenship. These qualities were recognized by the community of West Covina when he was named October Youth of the Month. T3)arbara Pill has been an integral part of the i3 Edgewood community for four years. ASB, athletics, music, academics, church, and her job have been recipients of Barbara ' s service, dedication, and cheerful positive attitude. Barbara was the 1 volunteer for any activity in addi- tion to maintaining a near 4.0 grade point average in col- lege preparatory classes. She was a four-year member of California Scholarhsip Federation and an officer. Also, she was a class officer, presidential advisor, and spirit week chairman in ASB. She was a letterwoman in cross country, softball, and volleyball, and a three year Tro- janaire member. She has served as an officer in most of the clubs she joined. As Employee of the Month at Carl ' s jr., peer minister, church youth group officer, and blood drive coordinator, Barbara ' s talents extended far into the community. Sports ' awards Barbara has earned are the best summation of this unique girl — Most Inspira- tional and Most Valuable. Mike bpence responsible student leader and an outstanding scholar, Michael Spence, has unselfishly given his talents to Edgewood and the community. Mike ' s record of achievement speaks for itself. He has participated in Marching Band, German Club, Computer Club, Letterman ' s Club, Science Club, junior State, Iliad, Aurigan, and California Scholarship Federation. His versatility and prominence in school life is further evidenced by being the Editor of the Odyssey, Sports Editor of the Aurigan, ASB President, and a varsity swim team member. He was selected as West Covina ' s Youth of the Month in March. Mike ' s personal success, outstanding achievements and contributions to Edgewood and the community have made him a very outstanding individual. trpjhe Emerald Key is awarded to the top senior graduates selected by the faculty for outstanding scholarship, leadership, service, and citizenship.
