Edgewater can be proud ot the fine sportsmanship shown at last night's game, reports EHS principal, Orville Davis, in his message to the students during the morning announcements. There's no indispensable mann is a statement Edgewater has a contradiction to right away, for without the leadership of Mr. Orville R. Davis, we would not be the school we are today-strong, capable of excelling in many fields, and exceedingly proud. Mr. Davis has many priceless memories of trials and tribulations since he first accepted the leadership of EHS in 1951. Through un- selfish giving of time and interest he has helped mold and build our alma mater to the meaningful symbol it is today. A friendly sort of person, he could be found in almost any phase of work ranging from working on National Merit statistics to playing in the annual Faculty-Student basketball game. There is no question as to his qualifications to serve as prin- cipal of Edgewater High School. He is considered to be one of the outstanding men in the field of education in southern Florida. Besides holding a Master's Degree, he has a Rank One Certificate representing at least one year's work above an M.A. Edgewater is indeed extremely lucky to have such a distinguished person as its leader. Administration Stresses Scholarship and Character Serving along with Mr. Davis was Mr. Howard Fleming, our new assistant principal but certainly not an unfamiliar face around campus. The ex-dean of boys took the new responsibility with an eagerness to excel in his newly bestowed position. Not only interested in Edgewater as a school, Mr. Fleming took a deep concern in the people that made it up-the faculty and students. Edgewater, in its entirety working along with these two versa- tile men, left behind a wonderful year. The sounds of Eagles in flight could be heard as we raised ourselves and our school to greater heights under their leadership and guidance. E E X Having been quicltly spotted by his easy-going smile and sports cap, Howard Fleming takes a moment out from his duties to enioy a colte. Flashing a smile, Lorena Thomas, Dean of Girls, begins her busy schedule. Often so much is owed to so few and this is easily applied to our own deans here at EHS, Faithful servants of our school, no problem has been too great for them to try and solve and none too small to merit their observation. Miss Lorena Thomas, or Dean Thomas as she is often affec- tionately called, is the principal figure sought by the girls when a problem arises or counsel is needed. Along with these duties, there are absentees to take care of, endless reports and records to be kept, along with all of the other things that are included in the life of Edgewater. With a pleasant smile and an amazing calmness, Dean Thomas smoothly handles her tasks. This past year Miss Thomas received a life-long honorary membership in the National Parent-Teacher Association for her long and devoted work with schools, teachers, and parents. We received a new Dean of Boys this year at EHS, the position being filled by Mr. Andrew Bayes. A difficult routine was quickly picked up, and before the year was in full swing, Dean Bayes was working along with Miss Thomas to give the students the best kind of counseling and leadership they possibly could. A congenial man, he quickly fit in with the activity of the school and soon gained the confidence and admiration of his boys and the administration. Edgewater cheerfully welcomed the new dean. Their doors were always open to us and we want to thank these two fine people for the contributions they made during the past year. They proved to be a most important part of EHS and felt they were very handsomely rewarded for their hard work and never-ending labor.
